The Clinical Supervisor directly supervises Lead Counselors and Counseling staff and holds final accountability for Behavioral Health-Counseling clinical decisions, staff performance, and regulatory compliance. The Clinical Supervisor enhances organizational effectiveness by promoting strong communication and collaboration across departments and demonstrates excellence in leadership, supervision, problem solving, participant advocacy, and public relations. The Clinical Supervisor is ultimately accountable for counseling program performance, clinical quality, regulatory compliance, and staff conduct, regardless of delegated responsibilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Clinical Supervisor Provide advanced clinical expertise in substance use disorder treatment, mental health resources, interdisciplinary collaboration, and systems-based practice. Ensure coordination and effective communication between counseling, case management, administration, nursing, medical teams, and other departments to support safe, high-quality participant care. Lead and manage daily operations of counseling services, ensuring high standards of care, compliance with ETS policies, and alignment with organizational goals. Support population health strategies while promoting efficient workflows and a positive, supportive work environment for staff. Provide direct participant care as needed, ensuring continuity and quality of services. Foster interdepartmental collaboration and contribute to organizational initiatives that enhance participant outcomes and operational excellence. Demonstrate strong leadership, problem solving, participant advocacy, and effective communication skills. Leadership and Clinical Oversight Share expertise and clinical impressions with team members and trainees. Facilitate the weekly Lead Counselor meetings. Provide oversight of the substance use disorder treatment programming. Ensure that participant rights are protected. Provide clinical supervision, case consultation, and observation. Promote growth of counseling staff in leadership, clinical excellence, participant-centered care, education, and organizational involvement. Provide oversight and guidance to Lead Counselors regarding day-to-day clinic operations, onboarding processes, and completion of administrative and quality initiatives. Partner with Lead Counselors on operational and clinical oversight tasks to as appropriate, while retaining final responsibility for outcomes, compliance, and corrective actions. Establish expectations for peer audits, review aggregate findings, and ensure corrective action plans are implemented. Participate in and or lead initiatives to promote and grow Clinic Services. Staff Supervision, Training & Development Provide comprehensive clinical management for Counseling: supervision, case consultation, and observation. Monitor, support, and teach clinicians to meet quality and regulatory standards. Develop professional development plans with Counselors. Oversee the design, coordination, and evaluation of staff training and continuing education, delegating delivery as appropriate to Lead Counselors. Personnel Tasks Maintain documentation of supervision and development plans. Participate in disciplinary documentation processes as needed. Manage hiring, disciplinary, and dismissal processes for direct reports. Ensure solid onboarding of new counselors. Make determinations regarding corrective action, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary outcomes for counseling staff. Meetings Facilitate weekly interdisciplinary staff meetings and other trainings as needed. Participation in care team meetings. Attend required professional development, training, and continuing education activities. Quality Assurance Support the quality initiatives led by the Director of Behavioral Health or QIRM. Assess strengths and opportunities in counseling service areas; recommend quality performance initiatives. Ensure staff receive on-site training and consultation on quality/performance initiatives. Implement new processes and ensure performance improvement activities are timely and effective. Manage data review to identify improvement opportunities; recommend program changes. Compliance & Audits Ensure counseling operations comply with internal policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Maintain the highest standards of professional ethics and conduct in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional codes of practice. Ensure staff comply with state and federal rules and guidelines. Oversee training and professional development of SUDPTs per WAC guidelines. Identify necessary changes in standards, programs, and services; recommend updates to leadership. Responsible for needs assessment and monitoring counselor engagement in professional practice and participant care. Serve as the primary WAC-designated clinical authority for the counseling program and ensure delegated supervisory activities meet Department of Health requirements. A minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical leadership or supervisory roles within a clinical setting is required.
