JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people and families by supporting the day-to-day operational support of a residential children’s home in adherence with regulatory requirements OFSTED and commissioner/contractual specifications. This means achieving high quality levels of care and support to enable young people to develop, thrive and achieve through building effective positive and nurturing relationships with them.
To care for and support children and young people who may have experienced trauma providing them with a warm nurturing and safe environment in which to live or have a short break. This role will contribute towards the development of the service, in line with Karemind Limited Basis and Values, and equality, diversity inclusion policies and practices. You will work to protect and promote the voice, welfare, rights, and health and safety of children and young people.

SKILLS

  • Ability to listen to and communicate effectively with children and young people with a range of communication needs as specified in the job description.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to create nurturing, caring and warm environments for children and young people to live in.
  • Ability to work with and build effective relationships with children and young people with complex needs and resulting behaviours.
  • Ability to accurately and clearly record case notes deploying the necessary standard of writing and IT skills.
  • Ability to write reports and produce other management information.
  • Ability to work with a solution focused approach to resolve problems occurring in relation to children and young people or team members.

For Children and Young People (Guidance and Instruction will depend on level of experience and qualifications):

  • To provide a homely, nurturing, and safe environment for children and young people to live in.
  • Participate in the matching process including liaising with professionals and families, updating senior staff, to support decision making.
  • To build and foster positive and nurturing relationships with children and young people.
  • To work with children, young people, and their families, on a one to one or group basis, using a variety of therapeutic interventions, in identifying individual needs to support the emotional, social and educational growth leading to positive outcomes.
  • To work in partnership with parents/carers to empower them and to enable them to achieve better outcomes for their children.
  • To contribute to developing and delivering individual care plans for children and young people with a range of needs, often complex and challenging, and ensure appropriate actions are taken in an emergency situation.
  • To provide support to the Key Worker/Link Worker as required.
  • To adhere to Karemind Limited and local authority safeguarding and child protection procedures with specific understanding of contextual safeguarding in the context of residential care.
  • To work collaboratively with children’s services, health agencies and other community-based services, to provide the most effective service for children, young people and families.
  • Dependent on experience on occasion oversee the day-to-day supervision of volunteers.
  • To undertake the role of Shift Leader as delegated by the Manager, as and when required.
  • Administration of medication and nutritional support in line with the child and young person’s needs and health requirements. This can include calculations of multiple medications and needing to use and monitor peg feeding.
  • In line with organisational and regulatory requirements, ensure records, and other administrative details are correct and submitted at the appropriate time.
  • Maintain confidentiality in relation to service users and staff.
  • To work within statutory requirements to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, complying with legislation, statutory guidance, policies, procedures, relevant frameworks and best practice.
  • Ensure service user records of children and young people’s information as well as information relating to the home are completed to oversee quality assurance and data protection.
  • Contribute towards the creation and maintenance of a culture of safe practice within the home.
  • Appropriate reporting and recording of significant incidents
  • Need to be fully aware of the risk associated with the child’s health needs and when emergency responses are required
