SALARY RANGE (Associate $70,000 – $75,000, Fully Licensed $75,000 - 85,000, BOQ)
WORK HOURS: Varies
SUPERVISOR: Clinical Director
POSITION PURPOSE: Therapists provide therapy and therapeutic processes to Empower Residential Wellness Center clients and oversee/assist all therapy-related services. The therapist is a member of the clinical department which provides overall clinical support for our clients and their families and referral agents. This includes leading or participating in various groups, effectively managing a caseload of up to 12 to 14 clients for individual therapy, providing family therapy and guidance, and providing written or phone updates to proper outside and referral sources on a regular and systematic basis. The role of the therapist is to also assist in helping our clients to embrace other parts of their treatment program, which includes learning independent living skills as well as academic or vocational pursuits. The therapist further provides crisis intervention, clinical assessments and monitoring for self-harm, group safety levels, and emotional readiness for events/activities. The therapist is responsible for all written documentation which must be stored at the appropriate time in our EMR system. The therapist is to work collaboratively to establish positive interaction with co-workers, clients and Empower Residential Wellness Center customers. The therapist receives clinical direction from the Clinical Director and works in collaboration with the Chief Operations Officer and Program Director and other executive leadership to form a cohesive approach for our clients and families.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

Strong knowledge of general work practices and work ethic
Minimum of five (5) years of related experience. Prior experience in recovery a plus.
Reasonable ability to operate EMR and related normal computer skills, and to read and write effectively in English.
Candidate must be capable of critical thinking and possess the ability to resolve complex problems and to effectively communicate with residents, team members, families, and referral sources.
Must understand the inner workings of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
Ability to maintain a schedule of events and arrive promptly is important.
Ability to follow company policies and procedures.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and work in a safe manner.
Ability to maintain professionalism in a fast-paced environment during all situations.
Ability to consistently maintain mental and emotional stability and express assertive personality when necessary.
Basic ability to write routine reports and correspond with appropriate staff and related individuals.
Proficient ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and create resolution.

Proficient in crisis intervention and management, knowledge of behavior management techniques and verbal de-escalation processes
Must be able to interact with participants in a responsible and empathetic manner and to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries.
Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam and health screen.
Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and be eligible for auto insurance coverage.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree and master’s degree mandatory. Additional training, certification or credentials may be required to accommodate specific program offerings.

General knowledge of state and local traffic laws and driving safety standards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the functions of this job, the employee will be required to participate in various physical activities with participants. These activities may include but not be limited to loading and unloading personal equipment, loading and unloading of passengers, loading and unloading of persons with physical limitations.
The employee will be regularly required to walk on uneven grounds, muddy and wet ground, and stairways.
The employee frequently is required to use fingers and hands to handle or feel.
Occasionally lift and carry medium weight (25-50 lbs.)
Ability to touch, hear, see, and speak corrected to normal range.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Proactively develop client treatment plan and monitor for client involvement and progress.
Provide interventions, and facilitation of group and individual and family sessions.
Provide routine communications to the treatment team, appropriate family members, referral sources, utilization review specialists, and other related professionals as needed.
Provide enrollment orientation and discharge planning as appropriate within time limits.
Must provide routine and accurate documentation in EMR files pertaining to each client and the continuum of care process and do so within the time allotted, (24 hours).
Provide guidance to clients and participate in program development for Empower Residential Wellness Center clients. An example would be to support learning independent living skills or other care components such as learning animal care and horsemanship skills, work skills and such tasks that are outside of the normal treatment modalities.
Provide crisis intervention as needed and determine transfer needs if applicable.
Must participate in our emergency/administrator on-call rotations and assist with floor duties if possible.
Provide assistance to new staff to help them learn our processes at the company.
Therapists must demonstrate flexibility in delivery of services to adjust where adjusting would provide better therapeutic alliance.
Therapists must display ability to exercise sound judgment and be able to display the use of independent discretion in dealing with young adult issues and agree to bring all concerns to their supervisors and executive staff.
Therapists must display strong professional yet interactive interpersonal skills and work in a safe manner as well as recognize that Empower Residential Wellness Center can often be a fast-paced environment.
Provide support, troubleshooting of problems and administration of solutions in accordance with clinical concerns to our clients.
Therapists must adhere to all company standards.
Therapists must maintain mental and emotional stability yet be able to express assertive personality when necessary.
Therapists must know State Licensing and Joint Commission rules and regulations and be willing to participate in reviews prompted by either.
Therapists must keep their certification active and current.
Therapists are team players and should help train new staff to orient them to our processes.
Occasionally therapists may be required to accompany clients to outside events. Examples might be a field trip, or court or visit the client’s independent living quarters.
Therapists will encourage clients to agree to the company agreements and encourage the development of positive client leadership.
Therapists to work collaboratively with other staff to ensure a safe and supervised milieu including support in the classroom and elsewhere.
Therapists agree to support and comply with all incident/injury policies and appropriately report any unsafe practices or situations or concerns to the proper department or leadership team.
Therapists to ensure the mission and philosophy of the company is clearly communicated, represented, demonstrated, and reflected within all program operations and interactions.
Therapists may occasionally be asked to attend conferences or present lectures to related professional development as requested, therefore some travel should be expected.
Assist with occasional duties as needed to ensure the collection of client urine.
Therapists may be asked to assist in other non-clinical duties as needed, such as instruction of any non-clinical classes, (teach creative arts, or other classes that benefit our clients or fill in for any absent non-clinical position).
Help research ways to continually improve our system of delivery of services.
Be on call on a rotational basis to support essential business clients and emergency situations.
Provide purchase justifications by turning in receipts.
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of appropriate duties.
This is a 24/7/365 operation and as such this position may be required to work mandatory overtime and/or extended shifts for emergencies and operations.
