SUMMARY

This position serves as an Advanced MSA at the GS-6 level at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) within the Registration section of the Ambulatory Care & Processing division of the Health Administration Department.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

US Citizenship is required. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.g.).
ENGLISH: Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Must possess six (6) months experience of clerical, office, customer service or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the Medical Support Assistant.
OR
Must have successfully completed one (1) year above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
OR
Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying for entry level. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

GS-06 - Work involves specialized administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or care in the community resources.
Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level. At this grade level, experience consists of: scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient appointments and/or consults; entering no-show information; monitoring appointment requests from multiple electronic sources; participating in huddles with other MSAs and/or clinic staff to determine the daily needs of the clinic; monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments; verifying and updating demographics and insurance information when patients check-in for appointments.

The Advanced MSA within this section performs intake registrations, performs patient movements (admissions, discharges and transfers), updates patient demographic information, obtains third-party insurance information, and makes eligibility determinations of Active Duty, Recruits, Veterans, and other FHCC beneficiaries

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Schedules outpatient clinic appointments using Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VISTA)/VSE scheduling options as appropriate
• Utilizes computerized programs and databases in order to enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive information and various other data into or from electronic medical records, scheduling systems, and/or reporting formats
• Communicates with internal and external facilities to aide healthcare professionals in the care and treatment of patients
• Receives and responds to inquiries from Active Duty, Recruits, Veterans and other beneficiaries concerning administrative questions and resolves recurring problems
• Performs basic eligibility, copays and preauthorization requirements

Work Schedule: Day Shift 7:30 am to 4:00pm, Night Shift 4:00pm to 12:00am
Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
