If you do, CNL’s Environment and Waste Technologies Branch is seeking a Chemical Technologist to support R&D projects involving waste processing, used‑fuel treatment, and the cleanup of radioactively and chemically contaminated waters and soils. Supporting Waste Processing Technologies Section research projects: Assembling bench‑scale setups and experimental rigs. Performing chemical sample analysis. Organizing, documenting, and reporting experimental results. Completing routine laboratory operations (daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly): Operating laboratory instruments, performing experiments, and recording, organizing, and compiling experimental data while maintaining excellent records and providing clear, accurate observations for technology development and commercial projects. Calibrating laboratory equipment and supporting experiment quality assurance. Following procedures to carry out work safely and accurately, including maintaining housekeeping standards and coordinating waste disposal. Setting up experimental and production facilities for R&D and commercial projects: Setting up experimental facilities to support R&D and commercial activities. Setting up production facilities for project execution. Communicating effectively through clear oral and written communication. Other duties as assigned by your manager. What we are looking for: Education Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, such as Chemical Technology, Chemistry, Physics or Engineering, or equivalent formal education plus relevant experience. OR Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent, and more than 3 years pertinent experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training. Experience Experience in chemical laboratory practices and safety procedures. Some chemical engineering laboratory operational experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Basic computer skills with word processing and spreadsheet knowledge. Basic skills in assembling bench-scale experimental setups and rigs. Good technical writing skills. Ability to learn under supervision to design experiments and develop procedures. Ability to troubleshoot technical/experimental problems. Ability to make decisions to ensure safety in the laboratory. Able to make sound decisions and recommendations based on scientific understanding, simulation, experimental results and observations. Able to articulate and convince others of his/her decisions and recommendations. Knowledgeable in the QA requirements for R&D activities. Knowledgeable in chemical laboratory practices and safety procedures. Working knowledge of chemical analysis techniques and equipment. Security Clearance Eligibility Required Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
