Job Summary

Exciting opportunity to join the ConocoPhillips Australia Engineering Team as Process Safety Engineer.

Position Overview

ConocoPhillips’ Australian headquarters are located in Brisbane. Our focus is supplying Australian customers with natural gas and international customers with liquefied natural gas. We do this through our 47.5 percent interest in the Australia Pacific LNG joint venture, one of the largest producers of natural gas in eastern Australia. ConocoPhillips Australia also operates the Australia Pacific LNG liquefied natural gas facility near Gladstone. We are also an exploration company, with ongoing exploration occurring in the Bowen and Surat Basin in Central Queensland and new exploration in the Otway Basin along the southern coast of Australia to identify natural gas reserves for supply to Australian customers.

About the Role

As a member of the ConocoPhillips (COP) Australia Pacific LNG Downstream (DS) Engineering team, this position will contribute to the development of an organisation which embraces a commitment to best practices and operational excellence while achieving zero injuries, incidents and maintaining standards for achieving excellence in operational performance.

Reporting to the Process Safety Engineering Lead, the Process Safety Engineer will provide the organisation with technical process safety engineering discipline support including monitoring of process safety management systems and supporting elements to ensure effective and consistent use to manage risk.

This role will interface with Field Operations, HSE, Maintenance and Reliability, Engineering, and other stakeholders to ensure that process safety objectives are communicated, measured, and reported and ensure that APLNG’s vision of being best in class for process safety is achieved.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support the Management of Change (MOC) process by preparing and progressing process safety-related changes
  • Assist in monitoring the process safety performance of equipment and identify opportunities to improve reliability and compliance with safe operating limits.
  • Participate in incident investigations and support the development and tracking of corrective actions.
  • Contribute to operational risk assessments and the Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) program, including HAZOPs, LOPAs, and other risk review activities.
  • Maintain and update process safety information, ensuring documentation is accurate, current, and managed through the ABU MOC process.
  • Assist with the development, review, and implementation of process safety specifications, standards, and engineering guidance documents.
  • Engage with operations and maintenance personnel to promote process safety awareness and understanding of hazards associated with a Major Hazard Facility.
  • Develop knowledge of process safety management systems, regulatory requirements, and industry good practices applicable to facility operations.
