An opportunity has arisen for an SLT to join the Nottingham Children’s Hospital SLT service (Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - NUH) on a progression post.
We are looking for a motivated and dynamic Speech and Language Therapist who is keen to further develop their expertise in dysphagia and communication skills in our Neonatal/Paediatric SLT team, which works across a range of specialities including Neurosciences, ENT, Critical Care, and Neonatology. You will be joining a team lead by two Clinical Specialist SLTs for Neonates and Paediatrics and working alongside Band 7s and Band 6s in the team.
This post is being offered as Band 6 to Band 7 progression post, subject to Annexe 21 guidance on starting salary and pay progression. Starting as a Band 6 the progression period would be up to 12 months, leading to transition to Band 7 (subject to attaining the required levels of competency). Training, support, and supervision would be provided from the SLT service for adults and paediatrics across NUH, with opportunities for mutual mentoring and support, and from the wider MDT.
This is a permanent full-time post however part-time working would be considered.
You would be part of a specialist Speech and Language Therapy team responsible for the provision of a Speech and Language Therapy service to the Nottingham Children’s Hospital. This involves the assessment, differential diagnosis and management of communication and feeding problems of paediatric inpatients, across the age range with a wide range of complex medical conditions.
You will initially be based across the Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital Neonatal units, providing early intervention and multi-disciplinary assessment and management of early feeding and communication needs. There will be opportunites in the future to input into the paediatric Children’s Hospital Wards at QMC, once skills in neonates have been established. The SLT role is working with babies and children during their admission, addressing their swallowing/eating and drinking difficulties and also their communication difficulties, with supervision as required. The role includes supporting the children and MDT colleagues for a well-planned and supported early discharge home and back into education. The role also includes inter-disciplinary teaching and training of patients, families, and other professionals. There may be some opportunities for some outpatient or MDT clinic work.
