Description

Recent new research funds from a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) grant and a Canada Research Chair position have become available for a post-doctoral position at McMaster University in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology/Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact (HEI, formerly Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics), to undertake perinatal mental health research, including in observational and interventional studies. This postdoctoral fellowship will enable fellows to extend knowledge in their research areas, conduct successful interdisciplinary research projects, enhance writing and communication skills and establish new collaborative networks.
The successful candidate will be supervised in a vibrant, collaborative environment by Dr. Sarah McDonald, holder of a prestigious Canada Research Chair, a perinatal clinical epidemiologist and a high-risk obstetrician. She works closely with academic and clinical psychologists in the field of maternal weight gain during pregnancy. There are several foci of ongoing research including in mood disorders and eating disorders. Experience with mood disorders, cognitive behavioural therapy, eating disorders or research pertaining to these would be important.
We are seeking highly motivated applicants with a PhD in Psychology with either clinical experience or research involving human subjects. The applicant should be able to work as part of a team as well as independently, and be enthusiastic about data to tackle the high dimensionality of complex relationships between patient characteristics, & repeated measures to examine maternal and infant outcomes. Opportunities include collaborations with teams in other departments, centres, provinces and internationally.
The appointment will be for 1 year with the possibility of extension for up to 3 years, dependent on the candidate’s goals, qualifications, fit and productivity. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
