Description

SAN FRANCISCO CAMPUS FOR JEWISH LIVING

Nestled in San Francisco’s Excelsior neighborhood on a nine-acre campus, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) is a center of excellence in providing a continuum of care. This includes the Frank Residences, which offer luxurious assisted living and memory care services; the Jewish Home and Rehabilitation Center, featuring long-term skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, and an acute psychiatric unit specializing in mental healthcare for older adults (age 55 and over); and the Jewish Home and Senior Living Foundation.
Grounded in the Jewish values of dignity, compassion, and community, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living—fondly referred to in the past as “the Jewish Home"—was founded in 1871. Today, 150 years later, it continues to build upon its legacy of enriching the lives of older adults.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Healthcare Safety Manager plays a critical leadership role in fostering a safe, compliant, and risk-conscious environment across the organization. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing workplace safety programs that meet or exceed federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, CDC, CMS, Title 22, and other healthcare-specific standards. The incumbent serves as the primary point of contact for workers’ compensation case management and incident investigations, collaborating closely with insurance carriers and third-party administrators (TPAs). The role also leads initiatives related to emergency preparedness, infection prevention, and environmental hazard mitigation. Working cross-functionally with clinical operations, facilities, human resources, and organizational leadership, the Healthcare Safety Manager supports a proactive safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of employees, residents, and visitors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare safety, occupational health, risk management, or environmental health and safety (EHS).
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Safety, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), or similar credential preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting incident investigations, managing workers’ compensation cases, and coordinating with insurance carriers or TPAs.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, CDC guidelines, CMS requirements, and other relevant healthcare safety standards.
  • Strong ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence safety practices in clinical and non-clinical environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing reports, training content, and audit documentation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and incident tracking/reporting software.
    Pay Range: $130 - 155
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive healthcare safety program focused on regulatory compliance, employee safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to OSHA, CDC, CMS, Joint Commission, Title 22, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and other applicable standards.
  • Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on workplace safety, health protocols, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead and document investigations of employee injuries, workplace incidents, and near misses; identify root causes and recommend/implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate workers’ compensation processes including initial injury reporting, claim follow-up, return-to-work programs, and coordination with insurance carriers and TPAs.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to proactively identify and address hazards.
  • Support infection prevention efforts and collaborate on outbreak response and PPE strategies with clinical and environmental services teams.
  • Assist with the planning, training, and evaluation of emergency preparedness initiatives (e.g., fire, earthquake, active shooter, pandemic response).
  • Deliver and/or coordinate safety training sessions and onboarding topics, including but not limited to: bloodborne pathogens, ergonomics, HAZCOM, fire safety, staff fall prevention, workplace violence prevention, and injury prevention.
  • Assist in the maintenance, support, and update of the Safety Data Sheets (SDS), emergency communication systems, and facility safety plans.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and recordkeeping for incidents, training, inspections, corrective actions, and compliance reporting.
  • Serve as the liaison and primary contact for safety-related inspections by Cal/OSHA, Department of Public Health, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with leadership on safety performance metrics, trend analysis, and dashboard reporting for organizational oversight.
  • Participate in the Safety Committee, Emergency Management Committee, and other relevant safety and quality improvement efforts.
