What's the role? Reporting to the Managing Director, Client Partnerships, this role is responsible for leading News Australiaʼs national trading agenda — managing consortium and holding group agreements to maximise investment, increase volume, and optimise deal structures. This role will also support the state based sales teams on the delivery of Independent agency trading agreements from a national perspective. You will be the commercial architect at the centre of our agency relationships, owning the trading narrative and delivering against investment KPIs. This senior leadership role will work closely with commercial sales, finance, strategy, and lead the pricing and performance function to ensure trading deals are structured for long-term revenue growth, short-term performance, and market share gains across key agency portfolios. By effectively managing agency negotiations and contract delivery, the General Manager ensures the organisation remains competitive, collaborating with the Managing Director to align trading strategies with overall business objectives. Key Responsibilities: National Trading Stewardship - Lead all commercial trading partnerships across major holding groups and independent agencies. Set the strategy for trading engagement, ensuring News Australia is positioned as a preferred partner in annual deal negotiations and mid-year investment optimisation. Lead national trading performance - Own trading relationships with holding companies and ensure national revenue, yield, and deal delivery is met while elevating deal conversations beyond transactional media metrics. Deal Structuring & Governance - Architect, negotiate, and execute high-value trading agreements that align with pricing strategy, inventory availability, and channel mix targets. Track and govern deal performance to ensure commercial value is realised. Agency Investment Influence - Develop deep relationships with Chief Investment Officers, Group Trading Leads and agency Commercial Directors to secure incremental volume, drive upfront commitments, and influence campaign routing. Cross-Functional Integration - Collaborate with frontline sales leads, pricing, and finance teams to ensure trading activity complements portfolio strategy and supports revenue integrity. Ensure alignment between trading agreements and commercial reporting frameworks. Revenue Intelligence - Lead tracking, forecasting, and reporting on trading performance by partner, including yield, volume, and channel shift metrics. Identify risks, recommend course correction, and execute mid-year commercial optimisation where required. Market Representation - Represent News Australia at investment leadership forums and agency executive meetings. Be the voice of trading excellence within the broader commercial organisation. Pricing Strategy & Commercial Effectiveness - Lead the development and governance of pricing models, ensuring competitiveness, profitability and alignment with market dynamics. Collaborate with Finance and Commercial teams to optimise pricing strategies and client contract terms. Performance Management - Monitor and report on key performance metrics, ensuring alignment with business goals and client expectations. Use data and insights to drive performance improvements and strategic decision-making.
