About the role We have an opportunity for a Senior Network Engineer – Security & Core Network to be part of our Project Management Office / Critical Network Program, Technology & Communication Services Command. The Senior Network Engineer – Security & Core Network provides high-level network engineering support for a diverse range of data and communications network infrastructure, including core networks, and remote site connectivity. This involves overseeing the installation, monitoring, and maintenance of NSWPF network and performance. The Senior Network Engineer plays a critical role within the Security Platform team and is accountable for the design, implementation, security, and ongoing support of high-performance network and security infrastructure for NSW Police. This role is integral to delivering the desired outcomes of the Critical Network Program, ensuring resilient, secure, and scalable network services across the organisation. The position requires advanced technical expertise across routing, switching, firewall technologies, and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solutions. The successful candidate will be instrumental in optimising network performance, safeguarding data traffic, and integrating modern security architectures aligned with evolving cyber security threats and business requirements. This role demands strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, hands-on technical proficiency, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders in a complex operational environment. Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Designing, deploying, and managing enterprise-grade network security solutions to support critical business services Implementing and maintaining robust firewall policies and configurations, particularly across Cisco and Checkpoint platforms Troubleshooting and resolving complex network, security, and application delivery issues in a timely manner Contributing to the architecture and optimisation of secure network environments, including SASE and hybrid connectivity models Maintaining comprehensive and up-to-date documentation for network security architectures, configurations, and operational procedures Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance network performance, resilience, and security posture Collaborating with internal teams and external vendors to deliver projects and operational outcomes Desired skills and experience: Strong hands-on experience with deploying entreprise grade Cisco and Checkpoint firewall technologies Extensive experience in routing and switching fabrics across distributed networks Hands-on experience with deploying and managing SD-WAN solutions (highly desirable) Exposure to Cisco ACI environments (desirable) Experience with Netskope SASE technologies (highly desirable) Demonstrated experience working in complex, large-scale enterprise or government environments What we can offer you At NSWPF our people have access to a range of benefits that help balance life at work and at home.
