Full-time, fixed term February 2027 until 2028 Be a part of an Internationally renowned Sydney Laryngology Fellowship Base Salary starting from $79,784 + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The University is seeking an Academic Research Fellow to participate in The Sydney Laryngology Fellowship. The fellowship is led by Associate Professor Daniel Novakovic, who is the surgical director of the Dr Liang Voice Program at University of Sydney. A/Prof Novakovic holds an FRACS in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and has International subspecialty training in Laryngology. The Sydney International Laryngology Fellowship is a one-year program designed to prepare existing ENT surgeons for a future subspecialty career in the fields of Laryngology and laryngeal surgery. The program involves attachments with several laryngologists across a variety of clinical locations. Clinical activities cover the breadth of laryngology with a focus on voice, swallowing and airway disorders as well as care of the professional voice. The fellow will be integral to the University of Sydney Voice Assessment Clinic. The fellow will also be involved in and assist with other regular multidisciplinary clinics including a dedicated oncology voice and swallow rehabilitation clinic and a chronic refractory cough clinic. The fellowship aims to provide comprehensive post-graduate training to prepare participants for a career in clinical and academic laryngology. The participant will gain exposure to a high volume and wide breadth of clinical and operative cases focusing on laryngology, laryngeal surgery, and care of the professional voice. The fellowship also promotes clinical and basic science research in the fields of laryngology, laryngeal surgery and care of the professional voice. This training program is uniquely tailored to the needs of the trainee. Education will take place in the form of directly supervised on the job clinical training as well as regular educational activities. The program will foster development of detailed clinical assessment skills including advanced laryngeal stroboscopy. There is a strong focus on office-based interventions including injection laryngoplasty, laryngeal EMG, laryngeal botulinum toxin injections and office based angiolytic laser treatments. The fellow will actively participate in operative cases in a graduated fashion based upon their demonstrated level of surgical proficiency Eligibility The Fellowship is available to qualified trainees in the specialty of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, locally and internationally. Candidates should have completed specialist training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and demonstrate a willingness to establish or join a specialty laryngology service upon completion of training. Candidates must be eligible for medical registration in Australia including demonstrated proficiency in the English language at an IELTS or equivalent level. Your key responsibilities will be to: Clinical Participate in clinical evaluation of patients including history taking, perceptual voice evaluation, examination including laryngovideostroboscopy and implementation of a management plan participate in grand rounds, radiology meetings, journal review meetings and registrar’s tutorials actively participate in operative surgical cases in a graduated fashion based upon your demonstrated level of surgical proficiency actively participate in office-based laryngological procedures in a graduated fashion attend and participate in regular M&M meetings. The Dr Liang Voice Program has a primary focus on research and education Partake teaching activities at an undergraduate, postgraduate and community level including presentations and local, national and / or international meetings and teaching of students and trainees Participate in clinical +/- basic science research with the support of the program and the University of Sydney Voice research laboratory attend specialty-specific educational activities and meetings as directed by the supervising surgeon/s be actively involved in research including planning and management of projects, development and maintenance of ethics applications and databases, analysis of data and preparation and publication of journal articles and manuscripts. About you: Have an MBBS or M.D qualification (or internationally recognised equivalent) excellent English language skills and evidence of competency in the English language (See below) qualified fellow in the specialty of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery with evidence of the award of principal specialist qualification have evidence of all education and all documentation to start RACS & AHPRA Australian application process demonstrated understanding of the subject-matter within the discipline of Laryngology evidenced experience in conducting and publishing original research and engaging in scholarly activity experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching and teaching in a variety of settings.
