QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

• Ability to set up, monitor and operate acoustic and electronic instruments, production, sound and other related equipment.
• Experience with event coordination with general knowledge of industry standards and practices in event and concert planning.
• Ability to relate to and communicate effectively (verbal and written) with academic and administrative personnel and students working or studying at all levels within a post-secondary and research institution.
• Strong computer skills and knowledge of appropriate software packages and Carleton University learning systems.
• Proven ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
• Ability to demonstrate sound judgment, creativity, initiative, resourcefulness and reliability in problem-solving and adapting to changing circumstances.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure, establish priorities and work within deadlines and budgets, using strong coordination, collaboration and team-building skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with minimal supervision.
• Must exhibit flexibility and demonstrate the ability to adapt workflow and processes to meet organizational needs.
• A calm, professional approach is imperative at all times, as the incumbent must be able to multitask complex equipment set-ups while dealing with students in examination settings and other scheduled performers/stakeholders.
• Sufficient physical ability to work in a physically active technical setting required, with work including: walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, moderate to heavy lifting, carrying, and beyond. Exposure to noise can be expected
• General knowledge of the university structure and its services is required.
• Flexibility with regard to work hours and scheduling as may be required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

• University degree in Music or equivalent.
• One year of related experience in providing technical support, planning and coordination of musical performances as well as experience in maintaining acoustic and electronic instruments.
• Experience should include technical knowledge, event and concert planning, and the ability to troubleshoot and coordinate with various internal and external stakeholders, including student, faculty and community performers.

Under the limited supervision of the School Administrator and reporting to and consulting closely with the Supervisor of Performance Studies (SPS), the Arts Technologist/Digital Media Producer and the Music Program Coordinator, the Music Performance Studies Coordinator is responsible for proactively planning, coordinating and overseeing the logistics relating to critical performance related activities in the School for Studies in Art and Culture, as well as for ensuring the success of all Performance Studies activity across a broad spectrum of concerts, performances and events. The Music Performance Studies Coordinator is responsible for the smooth and efficient coordination of all aspects of student performances and performance programming and participants, including the scheduling of internal and external examiners. The incumbent works with the Arts Technologist/Digital Media Producer to ensure all instruments and equipment are maintained and coordinates equipment loans and returns for the School. The incumbent also provides basic administrative duties within the School on an as-needed basis. Due to the nature of the work of this role, the incumbent must have sufficient physical ability to work in the required physically active technical setting, with work including walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, moderate to heavy lifting, carrying, and beyond. Exposure to noise can be expected. The incumbent will work varied hours that include evenings and weekends to support the various performance activities and events within the School.
