Location: Syracuse, NY Job Summary: The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and supporting timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. This role manages the month-end close process, supervises accounting staff, strengthens internal controls, and drives process improvements. The Accounting Manager partners closely with Finance leadership and cross-functional teams to support operational and strategic objectives. Duties and Responsibilities: * Manage and oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial close activities. * Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. * Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and support documentation for accuracy and compliance. * Supervise, coach, and develop accounting staff to ensure consistent performance and adherence to accounting standards. * Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP and company policies. * Assist with balance sheet management, including accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and depreciation. * Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to audit requests. * Establish, document, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. * Partner with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable leadership to ensure proper cut-off, reconciliations, and reporting. * Prepare and analyze financial reports and variance analyses for management review. * Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and system enhancements. * Ensure compliance with company policies, state and federal regulations, and internal control standards. * Perform any additional duties as assigned by management.  Experience and Education Required: * Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles. * Proven leadership and people management skills. * Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. * Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills. * Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. * High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and controls. * Collaborative team player with the ability to partner across departments. * Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience. * Prior supervisory or management experience required. * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required. * CPA or CMA preferred but not required. * Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office (advanced Excel preferred). * Experience in food distribution, manufacturing, or high-volume transactional environments preferred.
