Fondé par le professeur Yoshua Bengio de l’Université de Montréal, Mila rassemble des chercheurs spécialisés en intelligence artificielle et plus précisément en apprentissage automatique, apprentissage profond et apprentissage par renforcement. Reconnu mondialement pour ses importantes contributions au domaine de l’apprentissage profond, Mila s’est particulièrement distingué dans la modélisation du langage, la traduction automatique, la reconnaissance d’objets et les modèles génératifs. Depuis 2017, Mila est le fruit d’une collaboration entre l’Université de Montréal et l’Université McGill, en lien étroit avec Polytechnique Montréal et HEC Montréal.
Mila s’est donné pour mission d’être un pôle mondial d’avancées scientifiques qui inspire l’innovation et l’essor de l’intelligence artificielle (IA) au bénéfice de tous.

REQUIREMENTS

• A Ph.D. in machine learning or a related field with relevant experience in AI safety is required.
• Demonstrated ability to strategically develop and deliver reusable software solutions, ideally in an applied AI, research, or innovation studio setting.
• Strong technical expertise in AI safety, with a thorough understanding of the challenges and solutions in this field.
• Exceptional leadership skills, with a proven ability to motivate and influence multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Communication skills in French and English, with the ability to advocate for AI initiatives with both technical and non-technical audiences, and to communicate complex concepts related to AI safety effectively.
• (Asset) Familiarity with open-source software development and secure development practices.
• (Asset) Experience in sectors related to AI policy, AI ethics, responsible AI or technological risk management.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This Head of AI for Safety Studio position at Mila is a technical and high-impact leadership role focused on the creation and implementation of safe and aligned AI solutions. The Mila AI for Safety Studio is a strategic initiative that brings together resources, expertise, and funding to develop and deploy AI solutions that minimize risks and maximize benefits, with a particular focus on the safety and alignment aspects. We align efforts around a clear product roadmap and unifying projects, in collaboration with key partners and various stakeholders (AI safety researchers, developers, ethicists, etc.), to maximize our contribution to Mila’s goals in AI safety.

THE PERSON IN THIS ROLE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:

• Contributing to the strategic vision of the AI for Safety Studio and its projects, with a particular emphasis on the technical challenges and solutions in AI safety.
• Overseeing the entire lifecycle of AI products, from design to delivery, integrating safety-oriented development practices.
• Managing the delivery of client projects that use Studio products to meet specific needs in AI safety.
• Facilitating communication and collaboration between the various stakeholders involved in the development of safe AI systems.
• Leading and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, as well as with external partners.
  This role requires a strong strategic vision, excellent project management and leadership skills, a solid understanding of the technical issues in AI safety, and a deep commitment to responsible, safe AI and its potential for positive social impact.
