JOB DESCRIPTION – QUALITY CONTROL TECH - WELDING

Shift: 1st and 2nd
Reports To: Quality Control Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The QCT - Welding inspector is responsible for performing high-quality checks welding on steel components while also ensuring compliance with company quality standards, blueprints, and applicable codes and specifications. This role requires a strong background in welding processes, the ability to inspect welds for accuracy and defects, and a commitment to safety and precision in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred CWI, VT Level II.
• 4+ years of welding experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of welding techniques, tools, and safety procedures.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
• AWS certification preferred.
• Experience with AWS D.1.1 and AISC preferred.

• Perform weld inspections on structural steel and fabricated parts according to applicable codes and specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings.
• Conduct inspections of weldments before, during and after welding to ensure compliance with quality standards.
• Identify welding defects such as cracks, porosity, weld misalignment, undercut lack of fusion and missing or undersized welds.
• Assist Quality Control team in maintaining welding records and certifications.
• Verify welding equipment is in proper working order and report maintenance needs.
• Verify welds using tools such as filled gauges and a V-vac.
• Follow all company safety policies, welding procedures, and OSHA standards and production managers.
• Collaborate with fabricators, fitters, supervisors and production managers to resolve issues related to weld quality.
• Conduct weld personnel qualification testing.
