Description Job Summary: The Coordinator of Elementary School Ministry is the person who plans, integrates implements, oversees, and evaluates the religious education and sacramental preparation for elementary children. Ministerial Character The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the Parish (St. Helen Catholic Church - Georgetown, Texas which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. To fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Positions employed at St. Helen Catholic Church - Georgetown, Texas help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church. Requirements Essential Job Duties: Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Helen Catholic Church in both professional and personal life. Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church. Continuously grow in ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed. Provide, in a pleasant and professional manner, a hospitable welcome to all staff, volunteers, visitors, and callers to the Faith Formation Office, in order to create a welcoming, open, and helpful atmosphere. Research, suggest, and implement curriculum for children ministry, including development of catechetical programs, sacramental preparation, and approval of curriculum for the elementary according to the Religious Education Guidelines and Evangelization Catechesis Manual of the Diocese of Austin. Provide for the recruitment, training and support of the elementary catechists. Manage, coach, evaluate and supervise volunteers and classes. Schedule regular formation catechist meetings. Communicate with families in person and through the parish’s communication platforms weekly and monthly. Foster parent participation and involvement in ongoing faith formation of their children. Ensure the requirements of the VIRTUS, Safeguard the children and empowering God's children's programs. Maintains files for the Faith Formation children and volunteer team. Assist with and attend special liturgical celebrations as required. Maintains availability throughout the week in order to serve the needs of the parish to include pastor, staff, and volunteers during and outside of normal church office hours; weekends and some evenings will be required. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thrives in a pastoral and collaborative work environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times. Ability to effectively work with constant interruptions. Ability to carry out multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and implement creative solutions. Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written format. Ability to proficiently communicate in English and Spanish (writing, reading, conversing public speaking and deliver presentations, etc.). Minimum Qualifications Formal catechetical training and formation (Level 1-2 catechist certification) and/or equivalent experience; 1 full-time year or 2 part-time years of experience working or volunteering in a Catholic parish, school or diocese with elementary to intermediate-age children. Knowledge of and/or experience with OCIA adapted formation. Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing. Valid Texas driver’s license. Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period. Working Conditions: All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church. The Parish is an at-will employer. All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free. Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly. Working on weekends, evenings and some holidays may be required. Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct and speech including Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations. Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards. Will be required to use personal vehicle to drive off-site locations.
