Job DetailsPosition Type: TemporaryAbout Our Program: Michigan Humane offers a paid Summer Job Program, starting June 1st, 2026, for students enrolled in a veterinary, pre-veterinary, or veterinary nursing/technical program who are looking to gain essential hands-on veterinary experience while making a difference in the lives of animals and people within our community. The program runs through the end of August, and we offer a flexible end date. Our program allows students to gain hands-on experience working with animals and building essential veterinary technical skills that align with their interests, which may include the following: Safe Animal Handling Physical Exams Blood Draws Surgical Prep Anesthesia Monitoring Laboratory Skills Community Outreach Animal Husbandry & Care Neonatal animal care Infectious Disease Control Rotations are generally separated into areas of focus, which may include: Animal Husbandry & Care Shelter Medicine Clinic Medicine Surgery Animal Behavior Each student will receive individual mentorship from an experienced veterinary professional with regular guidance to develop goals and monitor professional development throughout the summer. The end of the program will conclude with the student presenting a veterinary topic of their choice to showcase what they learned over the summer. Locations: We have opportunities in our clinic and shelter facilities in Westland and Detroit as well as in our clinic facility in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Opportunities vary by location. Detroit: Rotation-based training in shelter medicine, surgery, urgent care, behavior and animal care. Experience is approximately 80 % shelter, 20% clinic Westland: Rotation-based training in shelter medicine, surgery, general outpatient medicine, behavior and animal care.
