Description

Technology Associate Program (Traineeship)

  • You are a go-getter from a non-traditional pathway, eager to break into the tech world. Whether you’re transitioning from vocational education or reskilling to change careers, you want a flexible, supportive program with meaningful work to kickstart your tech career.
  • We are your gateway to exciting roles in Engineering, Data Science, and Cybersecurity. We offer tailored support, flexible working (including part-time hours and hybrid working), and optional rotations to fit your unique journey.
  • Together we can unlock diverse tech career opportunities that match your skills and passions. Join our inclusive, forward-thinking community and take the first step towards a successful tech career!

Do work that matters

  • See yourself working at Australia’s largest bank with experienced Engineers, Data Scientists and Cybersecurity specialists.
  • Contribute to teams working on the latest technologies and determine how 17 million+ customers access their money.
  • Detect and respond to rapidly changing threats - your work will protect our customers and keep millions of people safe for generations to come.

See yourself in our team

Our Technology Associate Program is designed to support individuals from non-traditional pathways looking to enter the tech workforce for the first time, in roles within Engineering, Data Science or Cybersecurity. Our Program provides an earn while you learn experience, with long term opportunities - here’s what you can expect:

  • Real projects from day one: Jump into an established team that aligns to your skills and interests, and start making an impact immediately.
  • World-class resources: Access top-notch technical and development tools to fuel your growth.
  • Dedicated coaching: Receive guidance and mentorship from experienced leaders and colleagues to sharpen your skills and support your longer-term career goals.
  • Community connection: Regularly connect with peers in the tech early career talent community to share insights and learn together.
  • Give back: Be supported in volunteering opportunities to make a difference.
  • Career growth: At CommBank, we empower you to drive your career. With a range of career pathways available, your journey starts here!

We understand that every person is unique, and your journey should reflect that. The Technology Associate Program is designed to be tailored to your individual needs, not a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Here’s how we make it happen:

  • Personalised placement: During the recruitment process, we’ll work with you to understand your career goals, skills and strengths, placing you in a team that best suits both you and the business.
  • Flexible rotations: Rotations are optional, allowing you to customise your experience to meet your development needs.
  • Progress at your pace: Roll off the Program as soon as you’re ready, recognising that everyone learns at their own pace.
  • Work flexibly: Choose to work part-time or full-time hours based on your preferences. Many of our teams have adopted hybrid working, where we complement coming into the workplace with working remotely. Enjoy a mix of team-time in our tech hubs across Australia, balanced with working from home.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

  • Are passionate about solving some of the biggest problems within the financial services industry, using innovative solutions and approaches. Our scale means unparalleled opportunity to accelerate digital innovation and positively impact customers.
  • Have a critical thinking mindset, adaptability and a sense of accountability.
  • Are actively involved in continuous learning, experimentation and innovation – and are ready to further evolve your skillset, adding further capabilities, tools, languages and frameworks to your toolbox.
  • You are open and willing to share and receive information and support from our large community of technologists.

If this sounds like you and you meet the criteria below, apply today!

  • Non-traditional tech pathway: You’ve entered the tech world through alternative education routes such as TAFE courses, traineeships, micro-credentials, bootcamps or vendor certifications.

Note: If you’re just starting out, a Diploma-level qualification from TAFE will set you up for success. For experienced professionals who have reskilled, your valuable work experience means lower-level certifications may be acceptable.

  • Recent qualifications: You have completed your tech qualifications within the last 12 months or are due to complete them within the next 3 months. In line with this, you have less than 12 months working experience in tech.
  • Working rights: You hold Australian/NZ citizenship or Australian Permanent Residency at the time of your application.
  • Location: You are based in Sydney. (Please note that in the future, location requirements may change, so please look at future job postings for the latest locations).
  • Availability: You can work at least two days per week.

We’re building tomorrow’s bank today; we’re discovering new technologies on the horizon that aren’t invented yet and reimagining products for our customers. You’ll be responsible for the world-leading application of technology across every single aspect of CommBank – from innovative product platforms for our customers, to essential tools within our business. You’ll form part of the engine room behind Australia’s number one banking app, the Australian-first Cardless Cash, Spend Tracker, Benefits Finder and Step Pay. The possibilities for our tech cohort is ever-expanding, offering endless opportunities to innovate and make a real impact.
If you’re already part of the Commonwealth Bank Group (including Bankwest, x15ventures), you’ll need to apply through
