DESCRIPTION:
The opportunity.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you’ll lead the development of Defence Bank’s data and AI strategies, establishing dedicated Data Governance and AI functions. This role is key to ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data—enabling smarter automation, stronger compliance, and more impactful decision-making across the organisation. Your leadership will empower our people to confidently adopt and embed AI into their daily work, unlocking new efficiencies and enhancing how we serve our members.
Your key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
Oversee the development, implementation and refinement of Defence Bank’s data and artificial intelligence strategies
Support Defence Bank’s service delivery, staff support and efficiency objectives through the development and deployment of fit for purpose Automation and AI capability underpinned by the availability of high-quality data
Effective delivery of services and advice on all data and artificial intelligence related matters, to ensure that high-quality, innovative, strategic, and operational initiatives are introduced to enhance the Bank’s ability to achieve its strategic outcomes
Oversee the establishment and function of Defence Bank’s Data Governance Office and AI Governance Office
Oversee the integration of data platforms and tools to enhance data accessibility and usability
Provide the architecture and application estate that will allow Defence Bank to easily take advantage of both shifting market trends and regulatory demands
Contribute to the development of advanced analytics capabilities to extract actionable insights from data
Provide relevant, timely and comprehensive reporting to Defence Bank’s Executive Team, Board Committees and Board
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:
About You
Ideally, you are a strategic and experienced data leader with a strong track record in highly regulated, APRA-regulated environments. With a bachelor’s degree in computer or data science and advanced qualifications - such as a master’s degree in data or AI - you bring deep technical expertise and domain certifications. You’ve led data functions in complex, matrixed organisations, driving governance, innovation, and compliance while enabling data-driven decision-making at scale
