POSITION SUMMARY In keeping with the mission statement of the hospital and the nursing department, the Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for individual patients and families living with type 1 diabetes and may be on or transitioning to insulin pump therapy. The nurse assigned to this position is required to function independently and as a member of the Diabetes team in order to provide family focused and evidence-based nursing practice. DUTIES INCLUDE The primary responsibility of this position is as a Diabetes Nurse Educator and for the insulin pump program. Other duties include telephone counselling for families, extensive teaching of families and other health care professionals, participation in all clinical activities, participation in research and continuous learning to develop expertise in the specialty. The RN will also be involved in the development of electronic and educational resources for diabetes care and the insulin pump program.
