Reporting to the Vice President, Operations, this role provides strategic direction and operational oversight for construction, maintenance, vegetation management, damage prevention, emergency response, and fleet services. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director contributes to enterprise-wide strategy, champions the customer voice in operational decision-making, and drives performance through disciplined execution, strong safety leadership, and continuous improvement. This is a highly visible leadership role for a seasoned utility operations professional who thrives at the intersection of strategy, regulation, people leadership, and operational excellence. What You Will Do: Operational Strategy & System Performance Lead the planning and execution of operational programs that enhance system reliability, asset performance, and service quality. Ensure construction, maintenance, vegetation management, and damage prevention programs are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full regulatory compliance, with strong discipline in job planning, contractor coordination, materials readiness, scheduling, and job close-out. Use performance metrics and analytics to drive continuous improvement in reliability, productivity, and customer outcomes. Lead operational readiness and coordinated response for storms, outages, and system emergencies, ensuring effective restoration and proactive management of customer and community impacts. Safety & Operational Excellence Champion a strong, visible safety culture across all field operations. Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation, the Utility Work Protection Code, EUSA rules, ESA Distribution Safety Regulations, and all applicable standards. Drive improvements in operational processes, workforce productivity, and the adoption of technologies that enhance safety and effectiveness. Regulatory Compliance & Governance Ensure operational compliance with requirements of the OEB, ESA, Ministry of Labour, and other regulatory bodies. Maintain robust operational documentation, controls, and reporting to support audits, inspections, and regulatory filings. Contribute to regulatory submissions and evidence related to operational performance, asset management, and system reliability in support of rate applications and long-term investment planning. Financial, Resource & Fleet Management Oversee operating and capital budgets, ensuring sound cost management and responsible allocation of resources. Optimize workforce, contractor, equipment, and fleet resources to support efficient execution and emergency readiness. Provide strategic leadership for fleet operations, including lifecycle management, regulatory compliance, and modernization initiatives such as electrification and advanced technologies. Stakeholder, Municipal & Customer Coordination Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal partners, emergency services, contractors, and external stakeholders. Coordinate operational activities related to municipal infrastructure projects, permitting, inspections, and restoration requirements. Support transparent, timely, and customer-focused communication during outages, emergencies, and planned work in partnership with Customer Experience and Communications teams. Leadership & Organizational Development Provide clear leadership and direction to operational teams, fostering accountability, collaboration, and high performance. Develop leadership capability through coaching, mentorship, performance management, and proactive succession planning. Lead effectively in a unionized environment, supporting labour management relationships and reinforcing a “One Team” culture grounded in safety, respect, and accountability. What You Will Bring Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field; or Powerline Technician (Red Seal) certification; or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation, combined with progressive leadership experience. Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in electrical utility operations, infrastructure, or a comparable industrial environment. At least 5 years of senior leadership experience overseeing field operations, construction, maintenance, or large-scale operational programs. Deep understanding of electrical distribution operations, construction, maintenance, outage response, and system restoration. Advanced knowledge of utility codes and standards, including the Utility Work Protection Code, ESA regulations, and EUSA rules. Working knowledge of OEB and IESO regulatory frameworks and compliance expectations. Solid understanding of Occupational Health & Safety legislation and its application in field operations. Familiarity with Ministry of Transportation regulations impacting fleet operations.
