Description

KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER PARTNERSHIP

This project is part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme that aims to help businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK knowledge base. Successful Knowledge Transfer Partnership projects are funded by UK Research and Innovation through Innovate UK and are part of the government’s Industrial Strategy. KTP Associates spend around 10% of their time on training and development. You will be employed by the University but your role will be based at the company. Many KTP Associates are offered a permanent role with their company at the end of the KTP project. To find out how KTP works and the vital role you will play if you successfully secure a KTP Associate position. Please visit: www.ktpws.org.uk

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

The purpose of this role is, in collaboration with the Computing Associate, to lead the design, develop, implement and evaluate a psychologically-informed and AI-driven triaging system for individuals seeking mental health support, and an online service user gateway to provide personalised outcomes and enhance support within Scotland’s national mental health charity, Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH). The role holder will use contemporary psychological theory and evidence to ensure that the triaging system and online service user gateway are person-centred, aligned to appropriate therapeutic approaches and language, provide quick and accurate identification of service user risk, and align with appropriate legislative , professional and regulatory body guidelines. The Associate will work with SAMH colleagues, stakeholders, and service users to create a project steering group and with them co-create the Digital Gateway interface to ensure service user needs are met.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading the evidence-based, therapeutically-informed development, implementation and evaluation of the AI-triage system and service user gateway. They will be responsible for coordinating the day-today delivery of the project in collaboration with the Computing Associate, SAMH and Glasgow Caledonian University. The postholder will engage with service users and stakeholders to embed co-creation within the development of the triaging system and gateway, ensuring that these are person-centred and grounded within therapeutic principles. The postholder will also engage with contemporary evidence to ensure that the online service user experience is psychologically-informed and mirrors the in-person equivalents to support seamless transitions for services users.
The postholder will be based at SAMH, working closely with mental health professionals and service users to develop a practical and user-friendly AI-triaging tool and service user gateway which will help SAMH to transform the current state of mental health access and support across Scotland. The postholder will benefit from academic support and supervision from a specialist team at Glasgow Caledonian University, providing access to a strong research and teaching environment in applied psychology across a range of disciplines and therapeutic approaches. The role offers the opportunity to engage in knowledge transfer, industry collaboration, and ongoing professional development, with funding available for training and conference participation.
We are seeking an Applied Psychologist with at least a Masters-level qualification in applied psychology and mental health with experience developing and/or delivering digital mental health interventions and services. The successful candidate will ideally be a British Psychological Society Chartered and/or Health and Care Professions Council Register practitioner with experience applying person-centred approaches in applied psychology contexts. The postholder should have experience working within a multidisciplinary team and within mental health, therapeutic and/or third sector contexts.
Strong experience of both qualitative and quantitative research methods would be advantageous for the role along with experience of evaluating mental health interventions. Experience of conducting psychological assessment, therapeutic formulation and case management is required.
This role offers an exciting opportunity for a Practitioner Psychologist to apply their skills and knowledge in a real world mental health setting, working directly with service providers to improve access to, and the effectiveness of, mental health referrals and support. The role offers the chance to play a role in addressing Scotland’s worsening mental health crisis whilst developing industry-relevant expertise in applied AI, ethical governance for digital services, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
