Description

HEMIKO

Hemiko is a fast-growing innovative business which is looking to invest in and deliver over £1bn of heat network projects in the coming years. We fund, design build, operate and maintain low carbon district energy networks and building energy systems for communities, towns and cities We work with local authorities, developers, house builders and property owners.
We are looking to lead on city scale decarbonisation. We recognise that the decarbonisation of heating and the built environment is one of the last known and “solution clear” areas – this is where we are focussed and where we will be deploying our investment and our resource,
We are an innovative, design and proactive intelligence led company, looking to attract people who think around a problem and past an issue. We want to be at the front end of commercial and technical innovation and are looking for team members to come on that journey.

Some of our current projects include:

  • The design, installation, operation and funding of district heating system to serve 3500 homes in Clapham as part of a major regeneration project.
  • The design and installation of a heat network in an off-grid rural community in Cambridgeshire to replace oil boilers in 300 homes with centralised low carbon heat generation.
  • The design and installation of a ground source heat pump system to provide heating and cooling to a new development of 300 homes a gym and office building in South London.
  • The design, installation and operation of a new city centre wide low carbon district heating system for the City of Cardiff
  • Developing detailed long-term decarbonisation plans for existing large scale district heating networks to allow them to transition from gas fired CHP led generation to low carbon generation.

Hemiko is absolutely committed to an honest and collaborative approach to all our work, to being innovative in everything we do, always looking for better ways to do things and on avoiding the business curses of unnecessary complexity and silos.
We are a young, friendly business in the very rapidly growing low carbon energy sector, which provides significant opportunities for career flexibility and development.

CANDIDATE

We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior DH Design Engineer with excellent design, technical, interpersonal and software skills who enjoys working collaboratively in dynamic multi-professional teams, assisting in all aspects of the delivery of projects from development to completion to achieve outstanding results.
You will be able to show you have had 5-7 years of experience in this design area and you will have a keen interest in the field of Energy infrastructure for domestic, commercial and industrial buildings. You will have a keen eye for detail and be technically proficient.
We will want you to join our journey toward a more environmentally and technically responsible and effective way of designing energy systems; moving away from conventional processes into a more innovative and free-thinking design environment.

KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical, Civil or Energy Systems Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the design of district heating systems and/or related energy infrastructure.
  • Experience/knowledge of GPR survey techniques
  • Experience/knowledge of TM requirements, design and management of Local Authority representatives
  • Highly numerate and with a comprehensive understanding of pipe design and pipe materials
  • Experience in the deployment of low carbon energy sources such as ASHP and GSHP
  • A broad understanding of energy legislation and compliance

SKILLS

  • Strong knowledge of district heating principles, energy transfer, and heat generation technologies.
  • Experience with energy modelling and optimization tools.
  • Understanding of Heat and Utility Networks.
  • Familiarity with relevant local and international regulations, codes, and standards related to district heating, e.g. BS EN 13941
  • Highly competent in AutoCAD 3-D, Navisworks, or other similar design software
  • Competent in the use of sisKMR (or similar stress analysis software)
  • Fully IT proficient; Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email systems, etc. as a minimum.
  • Excellent communication and presentations skills.
  • Good organisational, time management and planning.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience in budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination.
  • Creative, inquisitive and enjoys solving problems.
  • Willingness to question conventional design methods
Responsibilities

ROLE

Hemiko are seeking a highly flexible, self-starting, post-graduate Senior engineer with demonstrable experience in the design of District Heating system infrastructure. The nominal location of the post will be Sheffield, but we have offices in London and Carlisle and staff based across the UK. You will be expected to visit prospective client sites and active construction sites throughout the UK from time to time.
The compact nature of the business and our rapid growth means that the candidate has significant opportunity to develop their career in a friendly environment. We are looking to develop teams of engineers that will be able to grow into designing a variety of energy related systems. It is anticipated, therefore, that the candidate would be seeking to broaden their skills horizon.
This position will differ from conventional design responsibilities in that the engineer will be given the opportunity to ‘own’ a design project from development through to construction. Following the handover to our Build Team, the engineer will continue to monitor and evaluate feedback from the Build Team to help refine and improve the design and all future designs.
You will report to the Director of Engineering.

SPECIFIC TASKS

Stay informed about new technologies and innovations in district heating. Develop standardised DH working methods and procedures, and develop standardised DH design documentation to enhance efficiency in delivery of designs
  • Stakeholder Communication:Act as a key point of contact for clients, suppliers, and other project stakeholders. Communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Construction delivery:Design and re-design support throughout Pre-Construction and Construction phases of work. Provide troubleshooting support for any operational issues or failures in district heating systems. Identify opportunities for system optimization and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability. On-site evaluation to ensure design compliance
  • Troubleshooting & Optimization:Provide troubleshooting support for any operational issues or failures in district heating systems. Identify opportunities for system optimization and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  • Reporting:Post construction evaluation and reporting to the Director of Engineering
