POLICY ANALYST

TYPE: permanent, full-time employment; Monday-Friday; office-based, with one day per week offsite

LOCATION: London-based, UK Secretariat Headquarters

REPORTS TO: IGU’s Director of Policy & Analysis

SALARY: dependent on experience. Benefits package, including private medical insurance, available.

About the International Gas Union (IGU):

IGU represents the global Gas industry, with more than 140 members in over 70 countries, covering over 90% of the global Gas market. The working organisation of IGU covers the complete Gas value chain, from the supply of natural and decarbonised gas, renewable gas and hydrogen, through their transmission and distribution, and all the way to the point of use.

IGU advocates on behalf of the global Gas industry, directly and through its members, and in collaboration with other international organisations and industry associations. It seeks to collaborate with governmental agencies and international organisations to demonstrate the economic, social and environmental benefits of Gas in the global energy mix as global energy systems evolve.

More on IGU at www.igu.org

About the Role:

The Policy & Analysis team supports IGU in the development of its long-term strategy and outreach to key Government and major stakeholder groups that impact energy policy formation and regulation, particularly with respect to natural and liquefied gas and low-emission gases.

The Policy Analyst will monitor global political and regulatory developments with the potential to impact the global Gas industry and develop IGU positions on key policy areas. These policy positions will need to be developed in collaboration and consultation with IGU members, Committees and external stakeholders, to support the role that natural, LNG and low-emissions gases will play as global energy systems evolve.

The role will directly support IGU’s Director for Policy & Analysis.

The role is only available for London-based candidates with a valid work permit for the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development of IGU’s core policy positions including targeted advocacy approaches for IGU’s external outreach (report launches, industry events etc.) as well as multilateral events (COP, G7, G20)
  • Monitor key global and regional regulatory and policy developments and latest research, including analysis and internal dissemination of key implications, take-aways and the potential for use in future IGU advocacy or policy formulations.
  • Collaborate to develop IGU key messaging, including collating third-party input and support. Liaison with IGU members, Regional Coordinators, IGU technical committees and other stakeholders on policy advocacy activities, strategies, and messaging.
  • Liaise with external industry stakeholders to identify and implement strategic coalitions to further IGU’s policy objectives and 5-Year Strategic Plan, as well as the Annual Business Plan. Maintenance of working relationships with multilaterals, policymakers, legislators, academics and other policy influencers (NGOs, think-tanks etc.)
  • Act as energy policy subject matter expert and mentor to the wider Secretariat team.

Qualifications and Experience:

·       Minimum of 3-5 years of energy industry experience. Experience working within an energy company, governmental body or energy consultancy would be an advantage.

·       Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex issues, facilitate discussion, and respond to stakeholders with clarity and professionalism.

·       Superb command of the English language – particularly written – is imperative, as is the candidate’s ability to understand geopolitical & multicultural nuances.

·       Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to quickly absorb and analyse complex policy issues and discussions, identifying key implications and communicating them clearly.

  • ·       Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or a programming language used for data analysis, with the ability to organise, manipulate, and extract insights from data to highlight key aspects of energy markets and support policy objectives.
