Description

Lawyer Role Profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic Solicitor, Barrister with practising certificate or CILEX Fellow with the ability to provide expert legal support to client departments by telephone or at meetings, often without prior knowledge of the facts.
You will need to demonstrate professionalism as well as excellent communication and drafting skills together with a flexible and positive approach and an ability to work under pressure. You will be working in a super friendly team with colleagues and managers who are very supportive. You will manage a diverse caseload of contract work which could include drafting contracts and reviewing tender documents, procurement advice for projects from start to finish for services, supplies and works. You will also be advising on commercial law in general in local government including subsidy control and advising on and drafting funding and partnership agreements. You will also advise the Council on its family of companies, charities and work relating to its outside bodies. Some prior knowledge and experience of corporate governance would be an advantage.
You may also be asked to undertake some commercial property transactions from time to time.
Why work for Plymouth City Council?
We offer 26 days annual leave rising to 31 days after five years’ local government service. You will also have the option to purchase additional annual leave.
We offer an excellent work/life balance with the opportunity for the right candidate to work remotely. We also offer an enhanced flexitime scheme which provides the ability to take a day off every 4 weeks, in addition to your holiday entitlement.
If you are keen to develop your career as a lawyer within a team where no two days are the same and you supported in your development by a friendly and professional team of lawyers, then this is the ideal role for you.
Please note we do not accept CV’s or agencies.
For more information or an informal discussion please contact Julie Parkin, Senior Lawyer on 01752 306058or Alison Critchfield, Assistant Head of Legal Services on 01752 306055.
