We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Deputy Payroll Manager to support the delivery of our payroll services and to provide excellent services to our employees and external third parties.

Responsibilities include

• The management of all payroll activity associated with payroll processing, statutory reporting, and statutory returns.
• Supporting service development and continuous improvement projects by working with wider teams to create efficiencies and automation.
• Identify process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy and efficiency
• Assist with RTI submissions, year-end P60s/P45s, and ad-hoc statutory reporting
• Dealing with queries from basic to complex raised by internal and external stakeholders of the business, escalating these through the correct channels where necessary

To be successful in the role you require

• Excellent technical payroll knowledge
• Provide a high standard of customer service
• Good communication, numeracy and interpersonal skills
• Keen eye for detail with the ability to manage your own workload.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

You will have demonstrable senior payroll level experience in a large complex organisation, experience of working with diverse internal and external stakeholders including HMRC and pension providers, as well as a sound knowledge of payroll legislation.
Experience of working with defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes is desirable.

Each year you earn a secure pension benefit of 1/49th of your salary and the University contributes towards the cost of this pension (currently worth about 20% of your salary). For a starting salary of £35,000, for example, the University would pay just over £7,600 in the first year of your employment and you would earn a pension of £714 p.a. for that year (payable from your State Pension Age).
