Description
Background: UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Aiming to showcase best practices of companies and mobilize further private sector action for gender equality, the first Asia Pacific Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Awards and the Philippines WEPs Awards were launched in 2020 and 2021, respectively. These initiatives were implemented through the WeEmpowerAsia (WEA) programme (2019–2022), a UN Women regional programme funded by and in partnership with the European Union, which worked to increase the number of women who participate and lead in businesses across the Asia Pacific region. As the only regional and national awards initiatives recognizing private sector action aligned with the WEPs, the WEPs Awards provide a unique platform for companies to showcase practices and actions advancing women’s empowerment across diverse thematic areas. The WEPs Awards has since proven to be a strong regional and national platform to recognize exemplary corporate practices, advocate for the adoption and implementation of the WEPs among diverse private sector actors and stimulate deeper action and engagement for gender equality.  Building on these gains and recognizing the need to move from recognition to sustained and scalable action, UN Women—together with the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)—conceptualized the UN Women Gender Action Lab (GAL): Innovation and Impact for Gender Equality in Asia Pacific [https://asiapacific.unwomen.org/en/digital-library/publications/2024/07/un-women-gender-action-lab-innovation-and-impact-for-gender-equality-in-asia-pacific]. GAL is a regional, multi stakeholder and multidoor platform designed to catalyze, pilot, and scale gender transformative private sector solutions through innovation labs, applied research, technical assistance, and partnerships. Within this framework, the WEPs Awards are positioned as a core mechanism under GAL, implemented on a two-year cycle and complemented by follow on engagement, including a WEPs Forum, to deepen learning, collaboration, and implementation. Through GAL, the 2026 Asia Pacific WEPs Awards [https://www.asiapacificwepsawards.org/] will continue to identify, document, and amplify innovative, scalable, and impactful private sector actions for gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, while strengthening national level outreach, partnerships, and engagement. In the Philippines, the Awards and related GAL initiatives will support greater participation of MSMEs, large corporations, multinational companies, and business associations, contributing to more inclusive and genderresponsive business ecosystems. The specific objectives of the WEPs Awards are to: * Encourage and recognize the efforts of companies in Asia‑Pacific and the Philippines that promote gender‑inclusive business practices, programmes, and actions aligned with the WEPs; * Document and showcase best practice examples; and * Raise awareness of the WEPs and mobilize more private sector companies to sign, commit to, and implement the WEPs within their businesses. In this context, UN Women Philippines seeks to recruit a National Consultant to support the coordination, outreach, and implementation of WEPs Awards‑related campaigns and activities at the national level. The consultant is expected to leverage existing networks, in addition to those already engaged by UN Women, to further expand the pool of private sector partners and ensure sustained and meaningful engagement, uptake, and implementation of the Women’s Empowerment Principles.  Description of Responsibilities/ Scope of Work The consultant will undertake the following tasks to support the planning, coordination, and implementation of the national WEPs Awards and to strengthen private sector engagement and adoption of the WEPs in the Philippines: * Support the coordination and implementation of national WEPs Awards activities, including outreach events, stakeholder engagement, and documentation of activities, in coordination with relevant partners and service providers. * Provide technical and administrative support throughout the WEPs Awards process to ensure timely and compliant implementation, working closely with UN Women staff and partners. * Support learning and awareness‑raising activities on the WEPs and the WEPs Awards among private sector stakeholders, including companies and business networks, as needed. * Assist in promoting the adoption and implementation of the WEPs among private sector actors, in coordination with UN Women and partners. * Support follow‑up actions with companies and private sector groups engaged in the WEPs and/or WEPs Awards, as appropriate. * Contribute to outreach and engagement efforts across relevant networks and platforms to strengthen partnerships and sustain private sector participation. * Coordinate administrative and logistical arrangements for WEPs Awards‑related activities and ensure timely submission of required documentation in accordance with UN Women procedures.   Expected Output/s Upon approval of the following:  * Approved stakeholder mapping, outreach plan, and activity calendar for the National WEPs Awards, including priority stakeholders and proposed outreach or campaign materials (e.g. presentation slides, information materials, webinar setups), as applicable. * Periodic progress updates on the preparation and implementation of WEPs Awards–related activities, including coordination and documentation of engagements and events. * Summary media and social media monitoring records related to the National WEPs Awards and associated awareness‑raising activities. * Consolidated records of private sector engagement and activities, including key documentation (e.g. contact lists or trackers, attendance sheets, brief reports, and photo documentation), in line with UN Women reporting requirements. * Selected post‑activity synthesis or learning notes, capturing key discussions and recommended follow‑up actions, as needed. * End‑of‑assignment summary note consolidating key outputs delivered and practical recommendations for future National WEPs Awards implementation. * Other technical and administrative support outputs related to WEPs Awards activities, as requested by UN Women.   Target date of Completion Every 30th of the month, from 30 July 2026 to 30 December 2026   The consultant will be reporting to the Programme Analyst – GAL (Philippines), supported by the Programme Associate – GAL (Philippines), who will be the point of contact on contract and payment issues.
