Description
The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Specialist, Health Promotions. Working as a member of the Health Promotion and Education department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy. The Health Promotions Specialist coordinates, implements, and evaluates lung health programs across Alaska, with a primary focus on supporting the Tobacco Prevention and Statewide Support Contract and other assigned projects. This grant-funded position supports statewide tobacco prevention and control efforts through community engagement, coordination, and technical assistance. The position coordinates program support and technical assistance to advance social norms and environmental change strategies. These efforts aim to reduce youth vaping and use of commercial tobacco and nicotine products, decrease exposure to secondhand smoke, increase quit attempts and cessation among youth and adults, and reduce tobacco-related health disparities across Alaska. This position is 100% grant-funded. Location: Anchorage, Alaska Hybrid: The position is located at the American Lung Association’s Anchorage, Alaska office and will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual work. Responsibilities: * Work with the Project Manager to develop, implement, and evaluate a public health education program focused on lung health awareness and the Tobacco Prevention and Statewide Support Contract for the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program. • Build, maintain, and cultivate relationships with funders, facilitators, and community partners to encourage program delivery, sustainability, and growth across Alaska, including American Lung Association programs such as Freedom From Smoking, Better Breathers Clubs, Asthma Basics, and others within the assigned territory. • Provide support for annual report, awards, grants reports and invoices and other activities assigned. • Research and implement best practices for tobacco prevention and control programs within priority populations. • Actively participate in the statewide Breathe Free Alaska Coalition and other regional coalitions as identified in the scope of work. • Coordinate all aspects of the statewide Breathe Free Alaska Coalition, including but not limited to meeting planning, support, and facilitation for the full coalition and Leadership Team, and provide excellent customer service to coalition work groups. • Coordinate assigned aspects of grant project activities, such as trainings, presentations, educational health fairs, and resource distribution, and serve as the lead for select activities. • Develop and effectively utilize timelines and work plans to ensure completion of program deliverables. • Explore opportunities to connect and enhance collaborations throughout the American Lung Association • Participate on national American Lung Association program workgroups and committees as requested. • Other duties as assigned Qualifications:  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience. • Minimum 2 years of experience developing and implementing community awareness, education, and programs specifically related to areas of public health, community engagement, or public policy. • Prior experience in public health, community relations, public policy, and/or advocacy. • Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills both written and oral. • Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and in a team environment. • Required to travel periodically for meetings and conferences. • Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs. • Able to work with minimum direct supervision, make decisions, and take initiative. • Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population. • Must have a valid Driver’s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned area for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required • Required to travel statewide for providing technical assistance, meetings and conferences as required by assigned grants. • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office. • Consistent with its mission, the American Lung Association maintains a smoke-free workplace; all employees must abstain from tobacco use in any form, including vaping. Compensation: Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $50,000 and $56,000 per annum.
