Medical Assistant - Contingent (Evening Hours) Job Description Under the general supervision of the Medical Director of Outpatient Services and in collaboration with the Clinic Director, the Medical Assistant position is responsible for obtaining patient records and test results, coordinating daily administrative tasks, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting practitioners during medical procedures. The Medical Assistant position is also responsible for assisting with administrative duties as needed.   Principal Duties and Responsibilities: * Obtains and records patient medical histories, vitals, test results and other information for medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality. * Coordinates the daily administrative activities, including scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, and patient medical record maintenance. * Prepares treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assists practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care. * Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA. * Prepares and administers medications for patients as directed by physicians. * Preparing and maintaining medical and office supplies. Maintaining and sterilizing medical instruments and equipment.  * Verifying patient information and updating records. Managing patient records and medical histories.  * Completes clinical documentation as required. * Educating patients about medications, procedures, and follow-up care.  * Providing information and support to patients and their families.  * Helping patients understand their medical conditions and treatment plans * Coordinates the daily administrative activities, including scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, and patient medical record maintenance. * Prepares treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assists practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care. * Delivers compassionate support, attention and assistance to patients and families * Verifies patient’s insurance coverage and any referrals needed at each visit.  * Assists with member clinical appointments, check-in and check-out processes including collecting any account balance or co-payments as needed.  * Schedules patient appointments and completes reminder calls for upcoming appointments.  * Assists members, their family or legal representatives with clinical needs by phone or electronic means.   * Collaborates closely with psychiatrists to coordinate patient care.  * Assists members and pharmacies with questions about medications and/or prescriptions.   * Coordinates ancillary services such as internal and external referrals, laboratory testing requests, acquisition of or sharing of medical records,   * Obtains and accurately enters vital signs into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) as needed  * Prepares, submits and/or stores necessary documentation for clinical services (E.g.: consent forms, ability to pay, releases of information, recipient rights, grievance forms if needed).  * Attends to phone calls and handles correspondence pertaining to daily clinical operations.  * Prepares and maintains the reception area, exam rooms and interview rooms. * Assists with medication refill requests by verifying their personal information, reviewing their clinical records, and confirming whether the request for refills is appropriate. * Plan and coordinate injectable therapies as recommended by psychiatric providers and administer the injectable medications.   * Ensure the Medical Assistant office is always clean and welcoming. Clean and disinfect all medical equipment and work surfaces soiled by blood or body fluids. * Assists with patient scheduling when needed. Answering phones and greeting patients.
