JOB SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS

Job Summary and Qualifications
In this work from home position as an Acute Care Outpatient Coding Lead, you will perform as the daily contact for coding, operational, and general questions from the coding staff, Health Information Management Service Center (HSC) staff, and shared service center departments. You will also provide support to coding leadership by coordinating coding and education activities within the HSC. You will work to achieve and maintain overall company-defined department goals. You will also verify complete, accurate, and consistent coding resulting in appropriate reimbursement, data integrity, and minimal variation in coding practices.

What you will do in this role:

  • Leads, coordinates and performs HSC coding quality reviews (e.g., routine, policy driven, performance driven, incentive plan driven, customer needs, identified trends, RAC, payer, etc.) for inpatient and/or outpatient coding (e.g., DRG/code validation, query validation)
  • Provides timely feedback and education as it relates to coding opportunities found during the review of accounts
  • Ensures rebill requests are entered timely through the system/process outlined in company/HSC policy
  • Answers coding related questions and assists Coding Integrity Specialists (CIS), Coding Account Reimbursement Specialists (CARS), and/or CDI Liaisons with day-to-day operations
  • Assists Coding Manager in the review and improvement of processes and services
  • Ensures accounts are reviewed timely to ensure cashflow, sustain accuracy, and meet filing deadlines and claim submission deadlines utilizing various tools (e.g., eRequest, Bill 49 tool(s), HIM Coding Prebill Account Review Tool [C-PART))
  • Coordinates activities in conjunction with the Coding Manager and SSC Education staff related to the development, education, training, and orientation of the CISs, CDI Liaison, and/or CARS team members
  • Reports to the Coding Manager periodically on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks and work processes, and individual and team training needs

    What qualifications you will need:


  • Management and supervisory experience in healthcare-related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of acute care outpatient coding experience required

  • Minimum of 3 years coding auditing experience

  • RHIA, RHIT, or CCS OR in process of receiving certification required

  • Associate’s degree or higher in HIM/HIT strongly preferred
