Position We are seeking a highly motivated, self-starting and detail-oriented individual to support Children Now’s ongoing policy advancement and advocacy efforts to ensure that all children in California have access to the supports and opportunities they need to thrive, including high quality early learning opportunities, supportive K-12 schools, and high-quality health care, especially mental health supports. Specifically, this position will support the policy teams by helping advance and advocate Children Now’s positions on legislation, budget, and administrative actions. This position will also provide office management and operations support for our Sacramento office. The non-exempt position is based out of the Sacramento office and reports to the Senior Director of Government Relations. The candidate must be flexible, adaptable, and someone who takes initiative and is solutions oriented. The candidate will have exceptional written and oral communication skills and talent in managing multiple tasks efficiently. The position offers an opportunity to a candidate who is interested in learning about policy, advocacy, and coalition-building to improve the well-being of all of California’s children and remove racial and other inequities that limit children’s opportunities to reach their full potential. Primary Responsibilities Support policy and government relations teams in scheduling meetings, virtual and in- person, and conference calls; Assist in scheduling, planning and coordinating policy and legislative briefings and events, including staff events; Hand deliver documents to legislative and administrative offices at the State Capitol as needed; Develop position letters, fact sheets and other documents in support of policy teams; Support legislative bill review and tracking, as well as track legislative budget and policy committee hearings in support of policy teams; Develop and support systems for sharing government relations information and communicating across policy teams; Serve as the government relations and Sacramento office liaison for staff and teams in other offices; Provide general administrative and office management support for our Sacramento-policy and government relations staff; Coordinate and facilitate all administrative tasks needed to ensure the smooth running of the Sacramento office; Work in collaboration with the People and Operations team and Sacramento staff, to plan and organize events, retreats, special meetings, compliance trainings, and other employee engagement activities; Ensure the Sacramento office is in compliance with the organization’s plan and policy; Serve as a member of the safety committee to assist with facilities emergency evacuation plans/procedures; Maintain and update databases and files, and conduct research as needed; and Support the development, finance, Children’s Movement and other teams as needed, and perform other duties as assigned.
