This position is responsible for the general cleanliness and maintenance of zoo facilities to provide a safe environment for visitors, staff, and animals. It is critical for the position to create a positive first impression and overall welcoming experience for visitors at the Utica Zoo. Essential Functions: Supervise Environmental Technician 1 & 2 Perform routine cleaning of restrooms, offices, exhibit spaces, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and trash removal. Ensure all cleaning tasks are of a high standard of hygiene and safety. Provide environmental and janitorial support for special events and rentals and scheduled or requested Coordinate with supervisor to provide training, guidance, and performance feedback for levels 1 & 2. Assist Maintenance Technicians as assigned Responsible for affixing and maintaining all zoo graphics/signage. Ensure familiarity with task checklists: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Annual. Aid in maintaining storage areas, workspaces, and shop in neat and orderly fashion. Learn correct use and maintenance of radio equipment. Participate in all department activities, including meetings. Aid in monitoring the well-being of the animals throughout the day; report any concerns to supervisor and animal care staff. Maintain proper reporting and records when required, in line with zoo protocols. Assure work, equipment, works areas, and self, represent the Zoo in a safe, clean, professional, and orderly manner always. Assist in working evenings, weekends and special events as scheduled or requested. Adhere to Zoo, OSHA and other regulatory safety standards, procedures and safety protocols. Demonstrate a task oriented, problem-solving attitude, willing to lead by example, act as a role model. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Education / Experience: High school or GED diploma, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience required Must successfully pass a background check and must have a valid, current driver’s license. Physical Requirements: Able to regularly engage in all physical requirements and be able to life/carry a minimum of 50 pounds. Able to actively work in inclement weather conditions year-round.
