Position Purpose: Provides courteous, personalized customer service. Maintains proper inventory levels of products and ensures the cleanliness and appearance of the bakery.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
· Champions Company and Division customer service programs to meet or exceed Division customer service goals. Handles customer relations in a positive manner, including effective resolution of customer complaints. Promotes Albertson’s philosophy of personalized service in the bakery.
· Assists in the sale of bakery products. Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom, and one-on-one customer contact.
· Responsible for cost and quality control. Ensures cleanliness and sanitation of bakery equipment and work area. Ensures safe work environment.
· Follows proper packaging and product handling procedures. Follows company guidelines and division schematics for setting up and maintaining products, cleanliness and appeal of product show cases, display tables and special displays. Follows proper signing procedures.
· Processes bread and dinner rolls. Helps customers with special orders for cakes and other bakery items. Slices bread. Prepares and displays product for sampling.
· Follows Company code dating procedures for all in-store bakery products. Complies with labeling requirements for packaged merchandise. Prevents the sale of out of code product.
· Staying informed on the price, ingredients and availability of products, especially advertised merchandise. Keeps baker informed to ensure a constant supply of products. Fills out inventory and production sheets completely and accurately on a daily basis.
· Opens and closes the bakery according to company procedures.
· Assists with all bakery duties such as: receiving, cleaning, pulling, proofing, baking, decorating, slicing and packaging.
· Responsible for performing all job duties safely, accurately and with honesty and integrity.
· Other necessary and required duties.
Skills and Physical Requirements:
· Ability to be friendly, courteous, tactful and maintain composure in dealing with customers and co-workers. Must possess good communication skills in writing, over the telephone and in person, legible handwriting and the ability to read and follow directions.
· Ability to frequently reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 55 lbs.
· Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination necessary. Must be able to operate bakery utensils and related equipment. Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks, carts and racks.
· Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.
· Requires knowledge of basic mathematics.
· Must be able to learn taste, content and perishability of products, safety and sanitation procedures and department policies and procedures.
Work Environment:
· Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to baking procedures, equipment and work aids necessary to perform job duties.
· Frequent exposure to 400˚ Fahrenheit while baking products. Exposure up to approximately 28˚ Fahrenheit while handling products in cooler and -20˚ Fahrenheit while handling products in freezer.
· Working conditions consist of a temperature controlled store environment.

As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the Cake Decorator provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Decorates cakes and pastries with designs using icing bag or paper cone. Trims uneven surfaces of cake or cuts and shapes cake to required size using knife. Spreads icing between layers and on surfaces of cake using spatula. Tints white icing with food coloring. Inserts die of specific design into tip of bag or paper cone and fills bag or cone with colored icing. Squeezes bag to eject icing while moving bag with free-arm writing motions to form design on cake. Forms decoration on flower nail and transfers decorations to cake using scissors. Maintains product organization in freezer or cooler. Fills cases, refrigerated gondola and table displays. Mixes whipping cream and butter cream. Interacts with customers face to face or via telephone to obtain special order information. Suggests products and designs for customers. Cleans work area. Monitors supplies, inventories and transmits orders to
Bakery Manager.
