Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency who proudly operates Nshwaasnangong Child Care and Family Centre.

Our Centre offers licensed childcare and a nurturing environment for up to 88 children, ages 0-6, to learn, develop, and connect with their Indigenous culture. Our Child Care Centre is adjoined with our Family Centre that provides a place for young children, families and youth to participate in ceremonies, land-based learning, knowledge exchange and connecting with community supports.

This position reports directly to the Centre Manager and collaborates with a team of RECEs and Educational Assistants.

Responsibilities
  • Culturally Relevant Curriculum: Collaborate with the childcare team to create and maintain a culturally relevant curriculum within their classroom (Infant, Toddler, Preschool). Collaborate to review curriculum, share ideas, assess curriculum, and support a positive atmosphere of teamwork.
  • Centre Functions: Maintain a healthy, safe and inclusive environment. Collaborate with the team to create a flexible daily schedule for their classroom, ensuring a dynamic and well-balanced day for the children in the room (Infant, Toddler, Preschool). Keep up-to-date on relevant Early Childhood Education and maintain registration and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Community Engagement: Initiate respectful and culturally safe relationships with families, community partners, helpers, Elders and Language keepers.
