Description

Are you someone passionate about reshaping the mining industry from early-stage planning to relinqument and making a positive impact through mine planning work?
If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you. We are growing and are on the lookout for an ambitious Mining Engineer to join our dynamic team. Come be a part of a visionary journey that is all about making a positive impact. This role is open to our Calgary, Saskatoon or Cranbrook offices.
At Okane, we believe that integrated mine closure planning is just the starting point to ‘Help Create a Better Tomorrow’. We work with mining companies to return land responsibly and safely, enabling what comes next to serve both people and the planet. Our work challenges the status quo — we advocate for meaningful partnerships with communities, including Indigenous rightsholders, and design solutions that create lasting financial, environmental, and social value. From early-stage planning through to relinquishment, we’re helping reshape the future of mining — and we’re looking for people who want to be part of that transformation.
Responsibilities:

MINE PLANNING INVESTIGATION

You will help review mine planning investigations to support tailings and mine projects, including site investigations and monitoring data. Experience with trade-off studies and resource evaluation techniques is advantageous.

Expectations for this Role:

  • You’ll build strong professional relationships with clients and actively engage in business development initiatives, exploring innovative opportunities beyond your project scope. Your insights will be vital as you communicate with our technical leaders.

  • In our fast-paced environment, your adaptability and prioritization skills will shine as you navigate unexpected challenges. Lastly, you’ll engage in our critical thinking process, evaluating and recommending clever solutions in your work.
  • You model Okane’s Core Values in every client interaction and are a trusted voice within the team.
  • You actively integrate health, safety and environmental considerations into every aspect of your work. This may look like completing hazard assessments and other HSE project requirements, following internal procedures and policies, participating in safety training, and promoting a safety culture. You are comfortable working flexibly across time zones and travelling from time to time.

  • We’d love to see strong project management skills and an eagerness to lead interdisciplinary project teams.
  • If you’re comfortable coordinating with peers and clients across different time zones, that’s a plus!
  • You have advanced skills in mine planning software in either Hexagon MinePlan and/or Deswik.CAD.
  • We really value critical thinkers who possess leadership skills at both the strategic and tactical levels.
  • Experience in both operating mines and consulting would make you a valuable asset to the team!
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, especially if you have experience with proposals, technical reports, and regulatory submissions.
