The Gooseberry Cafe in Longford Town has established itself as a top class dining facility since we opened for business early 2025. The response and support we have received from the people of Longford and surrounding counties has been fantastic, something we really appreciate.

The restaurant is decorated to a very-high standard with new furniture and equipment installed.

We are now looking to recruit Chef Assistant as a member of our enthusiastic team where the emphasis will be on preparing and serving top quality food dishes. Experience in baking and pastry preparation would be a distinct advantage.

This is excellent opportunity for the right candidate to learn and grow in a friendly work environment where everyone will be treated equally.

Main purpose of the role:

Working alongside the kitchen staff in the food production areas to provide our customers with excellent quality dishes.

Deputies for the Chef when they are off.

The ideal candidate will have/be:

2-3 years` experience in a kitchen environment and while some knowledge of baking is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have a true passion for culinary food while been creative and innovative with the preparation of dishes.
  • Customer focused in building a quality and loyal customer base.
  • Is enthusiastic about staying updated on culinary trends and incorporating new ideas into menu offerings
  • Main duties:
  • Assist in the preparation of the food.
  • Support the smooth running of food production operations
  • Oversee inventory management, including stock control and dealing with suppliers.
  • Complete all relevant documentation, including temperature checks and food safety records
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.

Pay: €14.50-€15.50 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 30.0 per week
