SUMMARY

Spire is seeking a Linux Server Administrator who will be responsible for managing the server ticket queue and maintaining and supporting the organization’s Linux server environments. The Linux Server Administrator will provide Tier II support for escalated user issues. This position is also responsible for participating in disaster recovery functions, file restores, testing and supporting server applications, and collaborating with the Patch Management Group on server patching.

REQUIRED EDUCATION (CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES)

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Business Information Systems required; 5-7 years equivalent work experience in Information Systems may be accepted
• Linux certifications, preferred

VMware certification, a plus

• Red Hat Certified System Administrator or similar, a plus
• Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), a plus
• MTA: Windows Server Administration Fundamentals or similar, a plus
• Valid Driver’s License

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES

Proven experience as a Linux Systems Administrator, ideally with some Red Hat experience. - Required
Linux command line scripting experience is a must have. - Required
Experience with VMWare ESXi for server virtualization.
Experience administering storage platforms (Pure, Isilon / PowerScale)
Experience with configuration management tools, in particular Ansible.
Experience with Windows Server Management: understanding of Windows Server environments, including setup, deployment, and maintenance.
Experience with Active Directory including user and group management, Group Policy, and domain services.
Experience with file systems and share management, including troubleshooting shares, mounts, and permissions. (SMB / CIFS, NFS, EXT4, NTFS, Oracle ASM)
Knowledge of networking concepts such as DNS, DHCP, LAN, and WAN.
Experience with Scripting: Ability to create and manage scripts using bash, PowerShell, Python, or other scripting languages.
Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve hardware and software issues.
Ability to work collaboratively with other IT teams and departments.
Requires critical thinking skills, good judgment, and organized methods in all facets of assigned duties. Requires sound judgment and decision-making skills to support the constantly changing computer environment.
Possess good analytical skills and efficient problem-solving abilities.
Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Ability to complete work assignments by due dates and deliver projects on an agreed schedule
Requires flexibility to work with users at all levels
Requires flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities and rapid change
Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to produce written documentation for technical and non-technical audiences
Ability to develop and implement dependable, efficient, and error-free systems that meet user expectations and require minimal support

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems on workstations and servers.
Customize Linux environments to meet the specific needs of different departments (e.g., R&D, Infrastructure, etc.).
Deploy and manage software applications and development tools for workstations and servers.
Manage user accounts, permissions, and authentication mechanisms.
Monitor and optimize system performance, ensuring systems run efficiently.
Apply system updates, security patches, and maintain overall system security.
Utilize configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) to automate and standardize configuration.
Ensure compatibility and proper configuration of hardware components, including CPUs, GPUs, storage devices, and peripherals.
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware-related issues.
Configure and manage network settings on Linux systems.
Configure and manage file system mounts and permissions on Linux systems.
Provide technical support to end-users for Linux-related issues, both remotely and on-site.
Diagnose and resolve software, hardware, and network issues in a timely manner.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and policies.
Implement and enforce best practices for system security, backup, and disaster recovery that aligns with security governance, risk, and compliance.
