Nurse Manager also serves as the accountable department manager for a designated patient care unit/department(s). She/he has responsibility for all daily operational activities including departmental planning related to staffing, scheduling, and budget, ensuring appropriate systems and processes for the efficient delivery of care, and ensuring safe/high quality care and an outstanding experience for patients and their families. This leadership role assumes 24 hours a day, seven days a week responsibility for all department functions. The manager is responsible for maintaining effective interprofessional communication and a positive work environment that supports and embraces the principles of shared governance. The manager is also responsible for ensuring that staff are educated and competent to care for the patients under their care. The manager routinely collaborates; works effectively with physicians, peers and other Legacy leadership to meet the strategic objectives of Legacy. Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, education, and evaluation of staff. Assesses technical and professional education needs of staff and develops or provides educational resources to meet those needs. Ensures competency of all caregivers. Designs a staffing plan to meet the needs of the patients being served and ensures appropriate allocation of resources to meet departmental needs. Qualifications Education: An academic degree in nursing is required (BSN or MSN/MN); master’s degree required, MSN/MN preferred. Internal candidates promoting from Assistant Nurse Manager may meet the master’s degree requirement with verification of a master’s degree in progress with an expected completion date within 2 years of the promotion date; progress will be reported periodically to the site CNO. Assistant Nurse Managers filling this role on an interim basis are not required to have an MSN/MN in progress so long as the assignment does not exceed 3 months, unless approved by CNO. Experience: Two years of leadership practice experience required. Demonstrated growth in leadership responsibilities and breadth desired. Previous clinical experience specific to the appropriate area of specialty practice is highly desirable.
