We are recruiting for CT1/2 local core surgical programme. Suitable candidates will have completed Foundation Training or equivalent and have a keen career interest in surgery. We are an organisation committed to providing high quality, expert and safe care but also importantly, we value and take our role in medical education and research very seriously.
We offer high quality surgical training programmes across several specialties and have developed our own local core surgical training programme. As a local programme, offered across our multiple sites in North-West London, we can offer tailored core-level equivalent training. The programme is managed, quality assured, supported and mentored by our local training programme director and education team. Successful completion of the programme and assessment at the final local ARCP will culminate in the award of a certificate of readiness to enter higher surgical training (CREHST) to indicate achievement of the required competencies and experience to enter higher surgical training.
We will offer Local Core Surgical training programmes to achieve the required competencies and experience across several specialties as well as specific Themed Core Surgical Rotations.
Themed rotations are offered based in
General Surgery Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery Plastic Surgery
ENT Surgery Vascular Surgery Neurosurgery Rotations will include the allied specialties of Intensive Care Medicine, Transplant Surgery and Major Trauma. Additional and alternative placements may be possible by discussion and agreement with our local TPD.

Successful candidates can expect

• Appointment to a 2-year contract with 4 or 6 month rotations, allowing stability
• Regular scheduled operating, clinic, acute and elective surgical experience in line with guidance and standards detailed by the Joint Committee for Surgical Training
• A named Educational Supervisor for the duration of the programme.
• 10 days study leave/ year with an enhanced personal study budget
• Access to ISCP e-portfolio (Trust funded as part of the enhanced study budget)
• Annual Review Process and support to achieve the requirements of core surgical training
• Access to opportunities for quality improvement, research and relevant teaching

Key areas of responsibilities

• Provide high quality care to patients in each specialty rotation
• The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration.
• To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
• To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.

Governance

• To participate in clinical audit and incident reporting
• To ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to
• To keep fully informed about best practice in the speciality areas
• To role model good practice for infection control to all members of the multidisciplinary team.

Leadership and team working

• To demonstrate excellent leadership skills regarding individual performance and clinical teams
• To work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and Imperial College London as required.
• To resolve conflict and difficult situations through negotiation and discussion, involving appropriate parties.
• To adhere to Trust/departmental guidelines on leave including reporting absence.

Research opportunities

• Excellent research opportunities are available throughout the Trust and with Imperial College London.

Teaching opportunities

• You would be expected to engage with and teach undergraduate and elective students. Opportunities may also arise for more formal teaching sessions.
