Description SUMMARY As a mechanic helper, you work directly beside our mechanics learning all basic services. Along with preventive maintenance on all Midland-Odessa Urban Transit vehicles and equipment in the way that the MOUTD Maintenance Plan and any other policies and procedures say to. Job Description: Mechanic Helper assists mechanics with preventative maintenance and repair of equipment, vehicles, and machinery. Responsibilities and tasks may include but are not limited to the following: Repair vehicles and equipment Clean and maintain shop equipment and tools. Maintain and monitor parts and inventories. Operate various hand tools Check vehicle fluid levels in equipment and replace or replenish as needed. Conduct preventative maintenance as scheduled or directed and maintain appropriate records. Requirements: Valid Driver's License Own tools preferred but not required HOURS OF OPERATION EZ-Rider's Maintenance Department hours of operation are 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Friday and 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturdays. Maintenance staff must be available to work shifts assigned during operational hours. Maintenance staff will be asked to participate in and work outside the regularly scheduled operating hours when MOUTD participates in and provides service for special events and projects. EZ-Rider's Maintenance Department operation schedule may change to accommodate passenger service needs resulting from system changes, unforeseen events, emergencies, and/or inclement weather. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Must have a reliable means of transportation to and from work. Learn to perform repairs requiring adjustments on all vehicles and equipment. Comply with all safety requirements and assist in training other Mechanics. Learn to troubleshoot all systems and identify problems using methods recommended by manufacturers, laptop, and computer diagnostic software, and expedite repair of defects with very limited/occasional need of supervision. Perform preventative and unscheduled maintenance inspections with very limited/occasional need for supervision as prescribed by the MOUTD maintenance plan. Ability to access service instructions and parts data in service and parts manuals and other information systems with very limited/occasional need for supervision. Maximize efficient use of vehicle repair parts and maintenance supplies. Performs all duties using the safest methods, ensures the proper use of all safety equipment and instructions, and performs all duties as prescribed by the MOUTD Maintenance Plan and all other safety rules, policies, and procedures set forth by MOUTD's handbooks, manuals, training sessions, and communications. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION Must have a current Texas Driver’s License minimum: Class “B” with airbrake and Passenger endorsement or ability to obtain Class “B” in a timely manner to be determined by Director. Must possess a valid form of identification for employment and any other identification documentation that may be requested when allowed or required by law. PHYSICAL DEMANDS To do the most important parts of this job well, an employee must meet the physical requirements listed here. The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time. Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to push. Required intermittent periods during which continues physical exertion is required such as standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment some of which may be heavy or awkward. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may be on the side of roadways, exposed to traffic situations, or near moving vehicles on public streets, highways, and thoroughfares. The employee should always use any safety devices provided to maintain high visibility; uniforms with stripes, safety vests, cones, lights, flashers, triangles, flags, and such devices should be used as outlined in MOUTD policy, procedure and rule books, and in a manner consistent with the laws and rules regulating commercial drivers and traffic warning devices. Employees should keep safe distances at all times from traffic and give themselves a second clear route of escape from situations confined in traffic. It is the responsibility of the employee to use good judgment and common sense to actively create a safe work environment when on a road call, breakdown, or emergency that places them near moving traffic during their duties.
