There are 2 rehabilitation physicians that provide the following rehabilitation services to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and the Murrumbidgee Local Health District: 16 inpatient subacute beds, in-reach to acute MDT, outpatient (weekly general rehabilitation medicine, fortnightly separate prosthetic & orthotic clinics), consultancy to the High Risk Foot Clinic, telehealth/MDT outreach inpatient and a telehealth/onsite inpatient to Mercy Care Centre Young.
There are 2 AFRM fully accredited training positions at WWBH. These positions can be for 6-12 months duration. Trainees will gain experience in the management of all conditions seen in Rehabilitation Medicine, such as the more common stroke/neurological, post orthopaedic procedures, deconditioning but also amputations, SCI and TBI.
The trainee will provide a rehabilitation consultative service in conjunction with the supervising specialist to inpatients and non-inpatients within the facility, assist in the development and implementation of a goal orientated rehabilitation plan, the coordination of rehabilitation treatment and referral to other facilities as required.
Under supervision, the Rehabilitation Medicine Trainee will provide effective medical services to patients as part of the multidisciplinary team and develop expertise in Medical Rehabilitation practice, in order to successfully participate in and complete Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFRM) training.
