The Department of Implementation Science at Wake Forest University School of Medicine seeks a mid-career faculty member (MD, PhD, PharmD or equivalent) to join a growing team of implementation scientists in Charlotte, NC. In partnership with the Department of Surgery and Center for Surgical Outcomes Science, our goal is to accelerate impact-oriented health services, health systems and health care delivery research in partnership with an operational research team. This clinically embedded S\scholar is critical to the realization of an effective aLHS. At our vibrant academic and clinical environment, we encourage multidisciplinary partnerships that span departments, centers, and institutes, magnifying the impact of patient-centered care that keeps patients, families, and communities at the forefront of our mission. As our departmental footprint in Implementation Science expands to Charlotte, this candidate will be part of a growing, 19-person department and have clinical colleagues with whom to partner and advance impactful, innovative research.
Candidates who have demonstrated methodological expertise in the areas of implementation science, health services research, health systems science, human factors engineering, economic or program evaluation, pragmatic trials, population health theory and behavior, with a demonstrated commitment to applied surgical research, are of particular interest.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Advanced degree (e.g., PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a medical or healthcare multidisciplinary setting
  • Active research portfolio aligned with the job description, commensurate with rank
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting team-oriented research
  • Strong methodological skills
  • Strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students, junior faculty, and/or clinicians
    Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a track-record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national conferences

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience or keen interest in conducting research aligned with operational aspects, working closely with clinical units to develop funded health systems and healthcare delivery projects.
  • Leadership in initiating and co-contributing to investigator-led research and clinical investigative teams (preferably both).
  • Proficiency in methodological skills including Implementation Science, Health Informatics, Systems Engineering, Healthcare Delivery research, etc.
  • Comprehensive understanding of complex challenges within healthcare delivery, medical science, and education within an integrated academic health system.
  • Track record of fostering an inclusive, transparent, and respectful organizational climate, with a comfortable demeanor in engaging with individuals across all levels.
  • Strong commitment to collaborative teamwork across departments, centers, and institutes.
  • While the position will primarily focus on research, excellence in healthcare delivery, clinical teaching and mentoring experience will be valued.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead high-impact, collaborative research aligned with the vision of the Departments of Implementation Science and Surgery.
  • Strategically engage and collaborate across the health system and beyond to achieve our mission to serve as a translational catalyst for our aLHS.
  • Participate in the educational mission of our institution and departments.
    Represent the Department of Implementation Science and Center for Surgical Outcomes Science on local (institutional), regional, and national professional committees.
