POSITION DETAILS

The University of Lethbridge is seeking applications for the position of Accounting Assistant II to begin work in Financial Services as soon as possible. This is a full time regular (temporary) position.
The Accounting Assistant II will be responsible for the review of financial transactions, such as journal entries and vendor invoices, in compliance with University and other policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. This position will provide support for University departments, advising on processes, the application of policies and the identification of risks. Additional duties include financial analysis to assist in department decisions, account reconciliations, auditing reimbursement claims, vendor direct deposit procedures, professional supplement plan responsibilities, preparing documentation and risk assessments.
The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification review for Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) positions. As such, the classification level currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.
Note: The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will possess, at minimum, an undergraduate university accounting degree and at least 2 years of related work experience. Experience in the public sector or a public accounting firm and/or working towards an accounting designation would be an asset.
The Accounting Assistant II is responsible for examining a large number of transactions with a high degree of accuracy therefore attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are essential.
This position requires exceptional communication and interpersonal skills in order to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the University community. The successful incumbent will demonstrate professional judgment, critical thinking and strong analytical skills.
The successful candidate will have advanced skills using Microsoft Excel and experience with financial analysis as well as account reconciliations and journal entries. Experience with Banner Finance would be an asset. This position requires knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency regulations and University policies and procedures in order to identify potential accounting and tax issues.
