Description:

Reporting to the IPA SA Chief Risk Officer, the position leads the Actuarial department. This department guarantees to the IPA SA management and to the Board of Directors that appropriate methodologies are used for computing the technical reserves, and provides independent opinion and recommendation on the key technical topics and processes. This position stands as a component of the second line of defense for the work streams defined by the Solvency II Regulation (Reserving, Underwriting, Reinsurance).

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Background and experience

  • Qualified actuary or similar education profile with demonstrated significant insurance technical experience in the insurance industry (10+ years): Knowledge of Reserving, Pricing, Valuation & Solvency 2 metrics
  • Proven Leadership
  • Knowledge of insurance (ideally assistance) products and markets
  • Knowledge of actuarial, macro economy, financial and risk-management matters
  • Understanding of coding skills in R & VBA, SAS/WPS & Python appreciated

Communication and management skills

  • Fluent English mandatory
  • Pedagogical skills to coach and develop skills of actuarial analysts
  • Excellent planning skills and strong sense of analysis and synthesis
  • Independent mind to express and sustain an opinion on technical strategic topic in front of Executive audiences
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate to different technical and non-technical stakeholders and present materials to senior and top management
  • Ability to challenge traditional technical schemes and accompany the transformation
  • Ability to receive and to provide feedbacks from and to the co-workers
  • Effective relationship builder at all levels

DIMENSIONS OF ROLES

  • IPA Gross Written Premiums: € 1.2 bn
  • More than € 300 m IPA SA technical reserves
  • IPA SA branches in 9 countries, 30 subsidiaries
  • More than 3 000 insurance contracts in IPA SA or its subsidiaries
  • A wide range of insurance products (Roadside Assistance, Home Assistance, Travel, Health, Legal Protection)
  • Direct interactions with the regulator (National Bank of Belgium)
  • Interactions with the IPA SA board of directors and AXA Group Actuarial Function Holder

Besides, the crucial stakes of the role are:

  • Expertise: Act as a trusted actuarial reference to both IPA and external stakeholders, strengthening risk understanding and valuation for reserving and pricing/underwriting, enforcing regulatory evolutions (statutory, IFRS 17, Solvency 2) and influencing business-decision making with value-added arguments in plain language.
  • Delivery: Guarantee the quality and the punctuality of the actuarial studies performed by the team, validating clear and detailed business requirements, with precise and realistic timelines and measurable expected results and conclusions.
  • Compliance & Control: Ensure the respect of Banque Nationale of Belgium and AXA Group actuarial guidelines, compliance requirements and internal audit follow-up in relation to underwriting, reserving, data usage (GDPR) and profitability metrics.
  • Independence: Provide the IPA SA Executive Committee and Board of Directors with independent opinions on all key technical topics

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guarantee to the IPA SA management and to the Board of Directors that appropriate methodologies are used for computing the technical reserves
  • Guarantee that the quality of data used to compute the technical reserves is appropriate
  • Provide an independent opinion on the level of technical reserves, as compared to best estimates
  • Provides an independent opinion on key underwriting topics
  • Provides an opinion on the reinsurance policy & reinsurance processes
