Description:

Join the change. Together, we’ll make history.
As we keep the lights on for over four million customers and move towards a more sustainable way of life, it’s an exciting time to be at AGL. We’re re-imagining how homes and business live and work across the country and we want you to be a part of it. This moment will define our time, and your career as you work alongside Australia’s best and brightest minds. You’ll grow and learn in a collaborative, safe and supportive environment and play your part in changing the course of tomorrow.
Everyone at AGL is an important part of building a better energy future and we want you to join in.
About the Role
AGL’s Engineering Analytics team are a crossover between engineers and data scientists. We use the field data collected from AGL’s generating assets together with other data sets to better understand how the plants are performing and to drive improvements.
We have a strong focus on wind farms, solar farms and grid scale batteries as these assets generate enormous volumes of data and lend themselves to automated analytics solutions.
You will be working with internal customers at all levels from site managers to plant engineers, operations, maintenance and trading teams.

What you’ll be doing

  • Apply engineering understanding together with advanced statistical methods (including predictive analytics, machine learning where appropriate) to operational data sets to convert data into actionable insights.
  • Drive conversion of insights into action by communicating and visualising results from advanced engineering analytics, ensuring that key stakeholders clearly understand the outputs and relevant uses.
  • Identify new opportunities for data-driven optimisation through innovative analysis/exploration and strong working relationships across a broad stakeholder base
  • Develop and automate assessments of key metrics for performance management of complex asset management contracts for wind farms, solar farms and grid scale batteries.
  • Provide formal and informal training to engineering teams to help them understand what can be achieved with advanced engineering analytics.

About You
Our ideal candidate for this role will have practical engineering experience in an operations environment (eg: power generation, oil and gas, mining), together with experience in performing advanced analytics or a demonstrated capability to build skills in this area.
The work is very autonomous so you will need to be a “self-starter” with the confidence to seek out opportunities, direct your own engineering analytics work and seek support where appropriate.
Finally, it is important that you have the ability to present the results and implications of complex analytics in a way that is easy for a variety of audiences to understand.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in an operations environment (eg power generation, oil and gas, mining) is highly advantageous.
  • Advanced data analytics capability, including demonstrated experience with one or more software systems for large-scale data handling such as: Python’s data analysis suite, OSI Pi, SQL and Power BI.
  • The ability to quickly acquire field-specific knowledge as required to scope and solve new operational problems (thermodynamics, wind turbine control systems etc).
  • An ability to understand and succinctly describe both the engineering and business implications of an insight or course of action.
  • Experience with software development, collaboration tools and cloud infrastructure (e.g. git, build pipelines and Azure) is a bonus.

We’d love to see your application, submitted by 10 May 2024
