OPPORTUNITY
MacEwan University is seeking a Career Development Specialist for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Career Services department. Reporting to the Manager, you will develop and deliver accessible, responsive and relevant career advising services and resources to students, alumni and program areas at MacEwan University.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising students and alumni on career and educational planning by appointment through video conferencing and in-person, which includes career planning, grad school planning, resume and cover letter writing, effective job search strategies, and interview preparation;
- Presenting Career Development workshops to groups;
- Providing advice to faculty and staff on issues related to career development, and collaborating on opportunities that support their programs;
- Conducting career assessments;
- Responding to career related questions and referring to the appropriate information, resources and services;
- Researching occupational, educational and labour market information;
- Researching and leading the creation, development and evaluation of innovative programming initiatives in career education and development, including career development services, materials, workshops, and online resources;
- Planning, developing, implementing and evaluating events that contribute to the career planning process, including career fairs, graduate school fairs, and field-specific events; and
- Supporting Career Services recruitment and training processes for student staff or volunteer roles.
SKILLS
You will have:
- Strong written and verbal communications skills;
- Problem solving and de-escalation skills;
- The ability to present to and engage with diverse audiences, with tact and empathy;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills;
- The ability to develop initiatives to engage students in their own career planning process;
- Exceptional collaboration skills within a team and the ability to maintain strong relationships with stakeholders; and
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom and Career Management software.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience with career advising and developing career resources.
- Experience developing and facilitating workshops.
- Experience delivering career assessments.
- A Certified Career Development Professional (CCDP) designation would be considered an asset.
- Experience in a student-oriented career centre within a post-secondary institution is considered an asset
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
