Job Description
Education at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time, permanent CH&E Specialist (Education Technology Specialist) to support the design, development and implementation of online courses and simulation-based learning for health professionals.
Reporting to the Director, Community & Continuing Education, the Education Technology Specialist will work across multiple teams, including Continuing Professional Development, Digital Innovation and CAMH Simulation Centre and will collaborate with additional stakeholders including subject matter experts, healthcare professionals and clinical teams, simulated patients, lived experience advisors, vendors, and other internal and external stakeholders.
The Education Technology Specialist will identify the training needs of an intended audience, and apply best practices in instructional design and curriculum development to create interactive digital courses and simulation-based education using innovative educational tools and technology.
Applying learning theories and evidence based instructional design models, as well as the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), the successful candidate will create online content, such as e-learning courses, web-based resources, scenario-based learning modules, 360 degree and other videos, and engaging learning activities that includes branching scenarios and high-fidelity simulations to enhance the learning process.
The Education Technology Specialist must have knowledge of continuing education accreditation requirements and will be responsible for ensuring educational activities meet accreditation standards.
The Education Technology Specialist will collaborate with site administrators and UI/UX designers to support the integration of eLearning courses into a learning management system (LMS), and troubleshoot technical issues related to eLearning course performance where needed.
The Education Technology Specialist will support the creation of evaluation tools to assess outcomes of educational activities working collaboratively with research analysts and evaluation coordinators to report on educational outcomes and impact, and analyze learner feedback to continuously improve course effectiveness.
The Education Technology Specialist will be able to manage multiple aspects of work simultaneously, and work independently, as well as with a diverse team.
The Education Technology Specialist will keep up with best practices, innovations, research, theories, technologies, and trends in the education field. The candidate will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 1025 Queen Street West.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related discipline with three (3) years of experience designing content in the field of adult education. Substantial knowledge of adult learning theories, instructional design models, curriculum development, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards, web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.1), SCORM technical standards, and current and emerging learning technologies is required. Demonstrated knowledge of conducting testing of eLearning courses to ensure functionality, usability and adherence to standards is required. Substantial knowledge of and experience with learning management systems such as Absorb and/or Docebo, eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline and Articulate Rise 360, and web conferencing software such as WebEx or Zoom is also required. Demonstrated knowledge of developing virtual simulation or online learning with branching scenarios and embedded feedback is required, and previous experience with virtual reality programs, Unity or 360 video is considered a strong asset. Demonstrated knowledge of technical writing for creation of user guides (including use of screen recording tools) is required. Knowledge of Camtasia screen recording is an asset. Demonstrated knowledge of UI/UX, xAPI, Learning Record store and gamification are considered strong assets.
Previous experience in healthcare and/or academic setting is preferred. Demonstrated ability to search, identify, and summarize relevant evidence is required. Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral/written), creative problem-solving, attention to detail and organizational skills are required.
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a self-directed manner, as well as collaboratively in a team setting is required. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to and manage changing priorities is required. Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset.
