Description:
QUALIFICATIONS
- University Degree in Child and Youth Care or Social Work with one to two years’ experience working with hard-to-serve children/adolescents in a school setting;
- Experience in working with children/adolescents from equity-seeking communities;
- Demonstrated ability to provide group or individual short- term goal-oriented intervention/conflict resolution counselling;
- Ability to maintain a co-operative working relationship in an environment where teamwork is essential;
- Ability to provide an effective level of service;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge of community resources that assist at-risk youth;
- Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and policies relating to at-risk youth; and
- Basic computer skills.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a continuum of counseling services for at-risk students in conjunction with team members;
- Work collaboratively with the school support team to develop pro-active strategies and programs aimed at enhancing student success, including acting as in-school resource for Safe Schools initiatives;
- Provide group or individual short-term goal-oriented intervention/conflict resolution counselling;
- Provide assistance to students in the acquisition, reinforcement and maintenance of academic, communications, social and personal management skills, including student attendance;
- Provide support and information to students and families regarding non-clinical community resources such as legal, day care, welfare, housing and transportation;
- Provide workshops and in-service opportunities for parents, staff and students;
- Meet the standards and expectations of the professional child and youth care practice service including preparation of reports and maintaining appropriate records;
- Attend meetings and in-service seminars/professional development activities as required;
- Assist in the supervision of students during various activities as required; and
- Other duties as assigned.
