Responsibilities:
Job Description
Clerk of Works based in Pangbourne, reporting to the Engineering Manager. The role will be to manage the safety of all works across site, to issue permits for disciplines including hot works, working at height, excavation etc, (training will be provided), provide health and safety guidance to the technical, facilities and project teams
The candidate is expected to be able to review and comments on RAMs in a suitable and effective manner as well as being able to write a Risk Assessment and Method Statement.
The individual should have an excellent understanding of Health and Safety and have experience in issuing permits and have worked in the FM arena, they should be proactive, able to work in a team, have good communication skills, have a keen desire to learn and understand, approachable, have logical thinking, adapt to the site requirements and be comfortable to be able to approach anyone undertaking works to carry out safety conversations.
Contracted hours 08.00 to 17.00 Monday to Friday and weekend working may be required at times
Role Summary:
- Working within a small clerk of works team
- Walk the site and monitor all high and low risk activities where you will be required to liaise with contractors, project managers, engineering, soft services team and the client
- Build & Issue permits on the electronic system, continually monitoring through the day
- Conduct safety conversations of works taking place on site
- Good understanding of word and excel and other IT programs
- Adding contractors to the site access system (smartsheet)
- Filing permits and associated paperwork
- Undertake specific training as per site BP processes
- Carry out audits on site permit system
- Carry out audits at other BP sites
- Review/Assess RAMS and provide comments based on current legislation
- Writing RAMS for the engineering team
- Be confident to stop works if deemed unsafe
- Feel comfortable to speak with contractors to make sure low risk works have RAMs which should be read, understood, and signed
- Escalate issues to the Engineering Manager
- Inspecting work area for safe handover once work has been completed for the day
- Excellent understanding of Health and Safety legislation (IOSH required, NEBOSH beneficial), working at height, hot works lifting operations etc.
- Comfortable engaging with the client, contractors, senior management etc
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and others
- Excellent communication skills
- Desire to learn and retain knowledge
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and pro-active, able to organise self to manage assigned tasks
